I have one, new never shot. I'm curious about the accuracy of this rifle. I can't shoot it until I take it out to the rancher that I'm trading it to. He wants to shoot an elk with it and he wants us both to shoot it. Just curious, is this a 300 yard gun. Thanks,Jeff

Pedersolis are not Sharps rifles, but they are adequate at the price paid for them. It may take a bit of work, but I believe you could really make that rifle shoot well if you are a handloader.

And rifles like the 45-70 are why the American Bison was once almost extinct. It is DEFINITELY a 300-yard rifle if you get the accuracy issue resolved, and that is true of any rifle: if the rifle is not accurate, there is not much one can do.

If you know how to load for it, and learn how to use the sights and really run the rifle, it is capable of killing elk and any thing else a lot farther away than 300 yards.

Pedersoli Sharps rifles fall short of Shilohs in fit and finish, but Pedersoli makes one of the best and most accurate barrels in the world. Time spent researching the best bullet molds for your particular rifle will be well rewarded.

Short answer is they are more than capable of killing and elk at 200 yards with black powder loads, and are not difficult to get to shoot with those loads.

Give me a week to do load work with it, and a set a MVA "Country Mile vernier tang rear, and spirit level wind gauge front sight dialed in for it.

I get two loaded rounds of my worked up loads with me.

Then, step off 1,000 yards and turn around facing me; holding an 18" square plate in front of you.

Guaranteed, if conditions are decent, my second shot, if not the first, will knock the plate out of your hands...

Boy, they make good barrels...
