Has anyone made loads using the Pistol 41 cal bullets? Hornady has a 210 gr and Speer has a 210 gr as well as a number of cast bullets. Looking for load data, etc. thanks

I haven't done this yet, but you might try working up a load using Hodgdon's Trail Boss powder. I use 30gr under a 400gr cast bullet, so you might start there and work your way up. This powder is very bulky and fills the case with the 400gr bullets I use so you wouldn't likely encounter pressure problems when working up with the lighter bullets. Sherman Bell has an excellent article on Trail Boss powder in older Nitro Express cartridges in the Double Gun and Single Shot Journal, about one issue back if I recall correctly. He presented some very interesting pressure data that was helpful to me in working up my loads. To summarize: pressures become erratic above a certain load, for example, if the regulation load is 30gr of Trail Boss, 32 grains might not increase velocity noticeably, but pressure might increase or decrease in an unpredictable fashion. The article is well worth reading.

I've had good success using Hornady 210 grainers and 48 grains of AA 5744 in my double on pigs and deer.....usually pass straight through them. Recoil is next to nothing. DRSS

I've used a similar load of 5744 with 300 grain Hornady .411's flat points (for 405 Win) as well as 300 grain lead gas check. All I need to do is flip up the second leaf and they are dead on at 50. Very accurate, no recoil to speak of. Bob

I have had good success with AA2015 and pistol bullets..both cast and jacketed..in my Encore. The 210 Nosler and 48.5 grains of 2015 will shoot lengthwise through 150 LB Kentucky whitetails at 130 yards. and is a quick killer. The same powder and Hornady 300 gr SP worked for me this season on several hogs and deer..the old cartridge is a lot of fun to hunt with,,and it still works shortgun
