I don't have the Speer #10 manual. Did they list a Ruger #1 as the "test" rifle for their 280 data?
I guess it really does'nt matter what twist it is since I've already bought the rifle. I'm just hoping it's a twist (fast) that will stabilize the heaver 7mm bullets.
Thanks for the comment Paul.

Don't worry! It will! I use long, pointed 175's in my Ruger No. 1A and M77 7X57's, and my 1B 7Mag. They work great!

To find a rifles twist:
Start a tight patch; being sure the jag is tight on the rod.
Mark the rod with a felt tip to indicate Top Dead Center and a starting point.
Advance the rod until it comes back to Top Dead Center.
Measure the distance traveled from the start mark. That is the rifling twist, one turn in xx inches.
A lot easier than trying to estimate the amount of twist in a foot.

Jon. Any Speer manual from #8 through #11 will have a listing of which gun company uses what twist rate in their rifles. For some silly reason, they dropped it from #12 and #13, a serious error in judgement IMHO.

I just bought a used #1B in 280 Rem.
Does anyone know what rate of twist Ruger uses for the 280?
I believe it was mfg. sometime in the mid 80's (sure had pretty wood in those days).
I won't get the gun (waiting period) for 10 days so I'm not able to measure it myself. Thanks...
