Quote: Ian How did that work out. I mean recoil, muzzle blast, accuracy, etc.? I'd like to do that to a Winchester 94. I hear it won't work on a Marlin.
The weather has been too bad to shoot it much, but recoil and muzzleblast are light and it's a fun shooter. I can't attest to accuracy yet. I have 5 different bullets loaded up but haven't had the weather to try them yet.

Leftoverdj. Since I been here for some time I go as ZERMEL instead or Fred M. Also my signature is Fred M. Just to let you know. I am wondering why H&R shut down the forum. Perhaps you know more people than I do. I am a BR shooter and been only recently attracted to the H&R Handy.
I ordered a 25-06 just to play with it. Some of my hunting friends in the country are interested in such a rifle and I told them that I will get one and do everything I know to make it shoot, at least 1 moa with 3 shots. I might like it and get one for myself.
At the H&R forum I found out about all the hicups and know how to deal with them. I feel 1 moa is possible but hope for better than that. Fred M.

Hay guys I am here. Lets hope others make it over here so we can continue the chat with all the good info. It was just getting interesting on H/R when the shut down. jeff223 is over at Greybeards. I will be gone on vacation for a week starting tommrow but will check back when I get back.
Sorry to see the the H&R forum go. We had some good threads going. There was some conversion talk going on which would remove the free bore of the Handies. Perhaps H&R was not feeling to happy about that considering the design and limitations of the action. The H&R Handy is a neat little rifle but it should not operate above design CUP or PSI.
Note:
The Yahoo nef site is not for me. They want too much personal information to peddle your name and flood you with e-mail spam.

Hi Guys, I made it from the closed down H&R and Marlin site. I'm going to call tomorow and try to find out what happened. I just ordered another Sportster and feel as if the rug was jerked right out from under me. There were a great bunch of guys over there. Thanks DJ for all the help in getting me here. I hope more of the guys make it....<><....

Quote: Hehe, let's hope so DJ, Big Mortie and his Squill basket made that forum unique among the ones I have been to. The only addys I have from there is yours, and you are already here...
Ian
Glad to see everyone is showing up. I noticed some are at graybeards as was mentioned so I registered over there too and will monitor both boards until everything settles down. Its funny, earlier this evening I was really down about the forum shutting down , but it looks like you can't keep any of us down for long and I have a feeling things will settle down real soon and get back to the way it was or even better . Someone has got to have Big Mortie's Email Address
I was elbStJoeMO over on H&R. I saw some of the posts over there that seemed like they were from kids who liked to hear themselves talk. That's great on a kids site but out of place a site that was offered as a courtesy by a manufacturer. Their lawyer types probably saw the modifications posted there as tacit corperate agreement, which left the hind most parts out in the air. Just my two cents worth with change left over. I hope all the serious shooters find a new home here.

There's already a large number of old MT members that have landed at the Marlin Firearms Collectors Assn. web site. I recognised a number of familiar names, and it's growing super fast all evening.
This seems like a good web site also. Marlin Talk lacked the advantage of having a moderator, so some threads really got out of hand. Glad to see some familiar names here too!

Howdy fellers! It's me Handirifle, the same. Well we'll give this one a try. What a bummer about the talk sites . I was sure bummed out this afternoon and frustrated . I was afraid my hopes for the Ultra Varmit were going down the drain. I like the rifle, but the info I learned on H&R talk really made my Handi accurate and was afraid I wouldn't have the same support for the Ultra.
Hope we all get back together somewhere.
This one's different so it'll take some getting used to.
It has been one frustrating evening, glad to be amoung some names I am familiar with. Spent a whole year working to become on of the top salesmen and they pull the rug right out from under ya. I too hope BIG -MORTIE finds us, won't be the same without MORTIE sportin' his SPORTIE. Will add some this weekend on how adding weight to 45-70 Handi works out, meanwhile, glad we are finding one another. JP
all of us from the H&R forums should each make at least one new post here, so that we can generate some interest here and get everyone over here. we may even drum up some people that are already here. I tried that yahoo link it seemed to be a PIA to get to work. I think here would be a much better place to hang out. Too bad they didn't at least give us a chance to do anything.

Called H&R, the presidents name is Bob Chipman, he was out today (?) so I will call back tomorrow. Called Marlin, the presidents name is Bob Behn (pronounced "Bean"). Was routed to his office, got voice mail, "Leave a message and I will call you back", left a message with no indication of what I wanted to speak to him about, no call back yet (why am I not surprised), hell I'm retired, I can call back tomorrow, think I will!!....<><.... . If someone says he is going to call you back he should, granted it was voice-mail, but still, a man is only as good as his word, again, why am I not surprised. Did a quick count, 5 H&R receivers and 10 barrels here, as well as extra stocks. I wonder how many recievers and barrels our old membership of 3500+ accounted for. I know that participation on the H&R website led to most of my purchases of H&R products, how in the world could the corporate types not see the business end of the forum? ....<><....

There are Marlin enthusiasts showing up on the Lever forums as well guys. I just suggested there that someone check with Marlin rather than just grousing and speculating. Good to see someone taking the inititive. derf

That young man's handle was Mitch, and he did email me asking me what happened. As soon as I get home and can get him a message, I will so that he can get on this board.
Quote: Someone needs to find Sourdough?. I don't know if I can take not reading any more of his adventures.
I hope someone can find him, I go into DT's after only a few days without one of his stories. MSP Ret glad you made it, ya'll too Junior and jeff223. I know I've left a bunch out, but glad to see ya'll here, all of you. You know that really stung, I get home fire up the puter, go to my favorite site, and it ain't there. First thing I did was fire off an email to DJ for some help in finding another place to land. I only had his and one other email addy, and here I am. Thanks DJ. Hope I don't wear out my welcome here, too.

The kid had his email blocked. Only way to reach him was by PM or on the board. I had sent him a PM and he should have gotten email notification including the message, but I can't recall if I included my email address.

Don't know his email addy, but he's one of the moderators on the new H&R/NEF forum over at the Graybeard site.
BTW, does anyone know how to get in touch with Major and beigOLDOC. Dang it I could kick myself for not saving a bunch of email addys. Sourdough and zermatt, and on and on. Bet I don't get caught with my pants down again.

Quote: Junior, what do you think about the feasibility of expanding your site to include a dedicated H&R talk forum? Thanks for listening, MSP Ret....<><....
I checked on that this very morning, MSP. To get a decent forum on castbullet.com I have to (a) spend $199 per year or (b) move to a different, Windows-based server. I can't afford either option. I can get one on my present server, but it's outdated and hard to use.
Junior, Just to let you know I for one am willing to make a yearly donation of $10 to $20 dollars to get you up and running. I am also willing to make a 10 year commitment at the $10 donation or a 5 year commitment at the $20 donation. Or perhaps if more were willing to join in the yearly amount to cover to $200 fee it could be reduced. Heck we had over 3500 (?) members on the old site, if only 5%-6% of the old members contributed it would cost us each $1 an year each. This site is great and its free, just a thought and an offer to you...MSP Ret....<><....

I think most of the H&R site folks will find this forum to have even better overall info than H&R's site, and some of the H&R forum folks will be a big asset. AR has a great classified, gunsmithing, reloading, and hunting sites. Activity here seems far greater than at Greybeard. Enjoy!

Do any of you guys have the email adress for that young lad that was seeking info for 110grn 30-06 loads on H&R talk? I was helping him out, but I lost his adress to. It would be nice if he knows about this forum so he can come and ask questions, so he doesn't hurt himself reloading.

Hey guys, I finally figured out how to get back to my old screen name. It seems someone else on this forum already had 338, so I am now 338_. I'm also still in the system as HandRtalk338, but i'll be using 338_
How are all the .357Max projects going fellas? I know alot of you were still waiting on your barrels. Did you get them yet. Weather has been crappy here lately so I haven't got out to shoot mine more than 30 times. I'd like to try shooting some of them Hornady 180grn XTP's. But not until some of the snow disappears.

I think I got everyone in on the reamer deal and a few more I had had other dealings with. I have a snail mail addy only for OldDoc and can cull a few more names of lurkers or Marlin Talkers from my saved emails. I'll make sure that the other gunboards I go to have notices up although so far folks have beat me to it.
Looks to me like we have a good start on locating the core posters and I don't really care if we lose some of the tourists. Mighty glad Jeff223 has been heard from.
My guess is that it is more likely that we lost the board to a corporate upheaval than because of anything posted. A poster had mentioned talking to someone in customer service who was disgruntled at the number of calls generated by folks checking out rumors.
I worked for a major corp for too long and saw all sorts of strange things happen because of re-orgs and internal politics. Wouldn't surprise me none if they killed the board just because their webmaster got pushed out, re-assigned, or given a new project.
One thing I am sure of is that they are gonna see warranty work go up. We kept a lot of guns from going back by giving simple fixes.

I'm here. Hopefully everyone else will make it. The old site had become one of my favorites...kind of peaceful and informative compared to the rest of my life!
And if anyone from Marlin/HR/NEF is reading this, I would not have bought my Ultra had it not been for the discussion board.
Quote: Hey DJ, did you email Lamar, A.K.A. 308 on H&R talk. I had everyones emails stored on H&R's site, but now that they are down I lost everyones email adresses.
308 where are you?
Hey 338, Yeah I made it here thanks to our friend DJ. Glad to see you and some of the 'regulars' from H&R talk have made it here too. Don't understand why H&R didn't give us a hint about this so we could have made arrangements, at least copied some of the folks email addresses. But surely word will get around about this place to the rest of the crew. Later, Lamar

Hi 308, Glad you made it!! Hello Junior!!, Glad you made it also, DJ has been great at trying to notify us all. I sent him some e-mail addresses I had and he has asked that each of us forward his notification to anyone else's e-mail which we the members may have in our own individual e-mail adress books. Perhaps we can get most of the old guys together again. I just ordered another H&R rifle and feel betrayed by the company. I am calling both Marlin and H&R today, perhaps we all can. H&R's number is 978-630-8220 and the parent company, Marlin, which most likely made the decision to pull the plug on the talk sites is toll free 1-800-544-8892. I would suggest be courteous but insistant and attempt to speak to the highest person you can get to on the corporate ladder. Workers in customer service should not have to listen to our complaints, they did not make the decision to eliminate the talk sites.
Now for the big one Junior, what do you think about the feasibility of expanding your site to include a dedicated H&R talk forum? I have always liked your ideas but know little about setting up a site, perhaps it is feasible perhaps not, I am sure there are those here with some expertise who would volunteer to assist. I'm here for whatever assistance I can offer. Thanks for listening, MSP Ret....<><....
