Is there anyone on this forum that has had experience of hunt in Africa with an encore. My second question is the same regarding Dangerous Game more so lion and buff. I'm going on a hunt in 05 with my wife and now 8 yr old son. I thought an encore with a few barrels and stocks one to fit my son would be an ideal way to go. My wife and son with something like a 6.5x55 or a 7mm08. I usually shoot a 308 for almost everything. Then I need an Idea for lion and buff. What do you think about a 450 marlin. Is it possible to geta barrel in 375HH? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks George

GeorgeAK, Take a look at these sites--I think Bulberry may have some African hunting info: www.bulberry.com www.virginvalleyguns.com www.foxridgeoutfitters.com www.bellmtcs.com www.eabco.com You can get an Encore barrel up to at least .458 Lott--maybe more from SSK (don't have their web address handy right now.) You may get a lot more discussion regarding hunting DG with a single shot than you get regarding what to get a barrel chambered in! Welcome to the AR forums!

George, I'm sure there will be much more "discussion" related to your intended use of a single shot. However, that's for you to decide. As AC pointed out, the custom barrel makers have a variety of chamberings for you to choose from. Also, T/C has now started chambering their factory barrels in .375 H&H. I've not heard/read much about them yet, but it seems like a nice combination for an African hunt. I think I'd prefer the quick follow-up shot of a bolt gun, but if you don't mind your PH finishing things for you at the slightest hint of trouble, your single shot will serve you just fine.

check out this link - buffalo with an Encore Handgun in .416 Lockhart (a .350 Remington-based Wildcat) One-shot Buffalo One can safely chamber the Encore in .416 Rigby and .375 H&H, for sure. I expect that the .458 Win and Lotts are not a problem, either (pressure-wise). In any of these rounds, though, I'd want to go with a heavy barrell. In fact, I don't like the way the encore handles (personal preference) with rounds in the 30-06 class - since it moves up instead of running straight back like a bolt action does. Troy
