the Wesson barreled action and 95% pantagraphed stock are now subject to the tender mercies of the USPS Priority Mail Delivery System. My stocker got a little backed up on delivery time, thanks to Chris at Walnut Grove telling the world what a great craftsman he is. A couple months, I can live with that. The last two bolt rifles were dropped off about this time last year, and we picked them up on the way to SCI. Don't ask how Wyoming is on the way to Vegas from SW Idaho. It's a very long story... It's a long story. A friend here and I have gone to SCI for the past several years, dating back to the last couple years it was in Reno. We've both been blessed to hunt Africa. Around Thanksgiving, we start talking about going again. We have taken my old Jaguar convertible, because it is a blast to drive down, and you can put the top down and enjoy Vegas's 60-70-degree weather. This time, we opted to bring a friend along, one of those "see the show..." things. Jag is out, this friend is 6'6" and about 270. I had a Toyota FJ Cruiser. Soooooo, at the last minute, another friend wants to go as well. The FJ is a great rig, but the suicide doors and smallish back seat dictate that Tall Dale and I get the front seats. Part II: we have this gunsmith who lives on the Idaho/Wyoming border, and he has just finished stocking two rifles for me. On Mapquest, it only adds a couple hundred miles, and the fourth guy wants to drop off a pantagraphed stock to have finished. Sooooooo, it's practically on the way, and saves driving up 350 miles one way just to pick the rifles up and visit. We drove down in one long day. Does that make sense? It did, at the time... If you have ever met me, you'd understand. If you haven't; it's a bit of a stretch. Get four guys together that like custom rifles, and hunting, and just general shooting; and it's about a perfect trip. I did trade the FJ in this summer for a Tundra four-door P/U. It has more interior head and legroom than my old Dodge 3/4-ton four door diesel. It will be a very comfortable trip in 2016. Rich | |||
