I've looked through back forums and haven't found a strong positive answer to this. I've got a custom Ruger #1 that I want rebarreled. I'd like it done by someone who does a lot of work on this particular model rather than someone who might do it, but prefers bolt guns. Any suggestions? Anyone west of the Mississippi? .395 Family Member DRSS, po' boy member Political correctness is nothing but liberal enforced censorship

Thanks for the info, guys. I've heard positive things about Reeder, and both good and bad about EABCo. This rifle is really special to me; given to me when I graduated from the Air Force Officers Training School years ago. The people who engraved it, finished it, provided the stock wood, and did the stock work were well known at the time. I want the best for this. Besides, its going to be revitalized from a 7mmRem Mag to a .400 Nitro Express. .395 Family Member DRSS, po' boy member Political correctness is nothing but liberal enforced censorship

I second Gary Reeder for the #1 rebarrel. You just can't beat the "Lifetime Warranty" he offers, regardless who ends up owning the gun. I have a good amount of his smithing and its top shelf. There are also several talented smiths that post here as well.

Several good recommendations, all I know is Pac-Nor did everything to mine, .5 moa is common and I shot a group this year UNDER half inch.....at 330 yds. This is in 6BR. Chris has always done me right at Pac-Nor. Great product/service, good price has been my experience. Let us know what you do.

Interesting about Pac-Nor. When I contacted them a few months ago - they weren't interested in remounting the quarter rib or opening up the forearm to fit a heavier barrel contour.

Pac-Nor is great for barrels only (my .338 Mag Pac-Nor shoots .329 @ 100) but I also got the impression that they would rather not do the bluing, sights, etc. That's why I always have them put on a bead-blasted stainless barrel and I'm done. Gary Reeder uses Hart and Shilen, so it's not like you're getting factory seconds....... ______________________ RMEF Life Member SCI DRSS Chapuis 9,3/9,3 + 20/20 Simson 12/12/9,3 Zoli 7x57R/12 Kreighoff .470/.470 We band of 9,3ers! Hart rebarreled one of my #1's in .35 Whelan -- and did an excellent job! I highly recommend. Dan http://www.hartbarrels.com/

I've contacted Nonneman and he provided good advice, interesting points I hadn't thought of, and works on Ruger #1's on a regular basis. I think I'm going to go with him when the reamer in .400 Nitro Express is ready. Thanks again for everyone's help. .395 Family Member DRSS, po' boy member Political correctness is nothing but liberal enforced censorship

Well fireball, alls I can say is, they built mine, NO quarter rib, if you research.... here: http://www.rvbprecision.com/articles/9/accuracy-tips-for-the-ruger-1 Those ribs with heavier bbls is a source of potential stress, from opinions of others, I can believe it. 1V's have scope blocks, 2, not a rib. With a rib, it is said use a lighter scope, my 1a 243 did a 3/8" 3 shot group, before I put the 6 br bbl on it, with a 2.5-8x and shot very well also with 6x, again lighter scope. Fireball, ALSO, my forend was ordered somewhere else to duplicate the 1V, the Gunsmith ERNIE at the time did mine, bedded it, after he did mine, he left Pac-Nor and went out on his own doing 'smith' work. SO, if you were doubting what I said, I am here to tell you I have the actual target shot at 330 yds. Ernie adv a 308 HB #1 that shot supposedly 1" or so at 500 yds or meters, now that may have been one group, but it sounded good to me so I told him do mine EXACTLY like the 308, and he did, and it shoots very well. Pac-nor may not be the place to do a Number one now, but if they will do what you need, I'd recommend them based on my rifle's accuracy. Heck, I never shot a sub inch group from a bolt gun much less sub .5 at 330 yds! Fluke, likely, but it HAS to be accurate, or a darned good coincidence to shoot 3 shots that close, that far! I have seen enough tight groups to say with confidence it's a good #1! That's my take. Prior to Pac-Nor, Carolina Precision Rifles or something like that seemed to be highly recommended. I am sure they will do well, a good barrel, good trigger, and good bedding SHOULD make a Ruger #1 do very well, but I have to tell you I was told by a smith that sometimes you get a factory Ruger #1 that shoots poor out of the box, and reworking bbl etc, does not always yield good/better accuracy, SO there is PERHAPS something going on in some of the actions, DON'T know, but I have to imagine if the hanger is tuned/bedded right, and the action thread true and block square there should not be a problem, common sense tells me, but I have seen things that defy logic. Also understand EA Brown does a good bit of Ruger #1 work. Best of luck. OH, one last thing before I get flamed about that 308 accuracy comment, yes sounds amazing, and I was skeptical, but after seeing mine shoot can believe it. I realize groups that tight are not an 'average' but the fact that a rifle can and has shot those small groups tells me what I want to know.
