I am trying to find out something about the 30 R Blaser cartridge for a client. I have been to the RWS site etc. and can not find squat. I have read the previous post here and go some info. I was in hopes that someone has shot the ammo and can give me updates on performance or just any info period. I can't even find a drawing / photo of the cartridge. Not shown in the new Cartridges of the World book nor have I found it on the net. Help! You can borrow money but you can not borrow time. Go hunting with your family.

Harry I've been looking to buy the Blaser 95 in 30 Blaser. It is my understanding it is on par with the 300 Holland. It is in the newest COW but I don't have the copy here. When I get to it I will take a snapshot of the page if you are still looking.

G'day, according to the 9th edition of Cartridges of the World, the 30R Blaser falls between the 30-06 and the 300 H&H, in terms of performance and relative recoil (page 393). Cheers, Dave. Non Illegitium Carborundum Cheers, Dave. Aut Inveniam Viam aut Faciam.

It looks a 9.3x74R shortened about 1/4", blown out, and necked down to 30 caliber. The CIP pressure rating is the same as for the .30-06, but the larger case capacity will give greater speed. The base diameter is a bastard size (.480), and given the high pressures, forming from available 9.3x74R brass (.469) might be iffy. If have to believe you'd be better off running 9.3x74R brass through a .30-06 die (.471) and trimming to length. Neck turning might be needed, of course. Use a std. -06 reamer and lathe in the rim recess.

Thanks guys for the info. Sambar...I wore that damn copy of Cartridges of the World out but I did not see page 393 evidently. Thanks and I am glad it was not a snake! I looked in the back of the book (index) and I did not see it listed. Going to have to change glasses I guess. Mickey...when you find the page you refered to I will be watching. ASDF...thanks too for your info. I guess I am lucky I can find my butt with both hands. You can borrow money but you can not borrow time. Go hunting with your family.

30 Blaser. Caselength 2.674 " Case with 150gr Nosler Ballistic tip seated to base oneck. 3.530" AOL ( compare this to your factory load) 30R Blaser water volume to top of neck RWScase 78.0 gr ( H414 fill to top 77.0 gr or bulk density 98.7%) 30-06 RWS case water vol. to top of neck 68.0 gr Difference in volume 10.0 gr or 13% Factory Load of the 30 Blaser with a 9.7 g ( 150grBullet ) = 940m = ( 3084 ft/MV) in a 24" barrel Factory Load of the 30-06 RWS with the same 150 gr bullet = 910m = 2986 ft/MV in a 24" barrel Velocity difference is 3.2% or 98 ft. In the 30-06 58.0 gr of H414 produces about 3043 in a 26" barrel or about 3000 ft in a 24" Barrel. H 414 filled to underside of bullet = 71.0 gr or 100% load fill density. A starting Load is minus 15% or 10.65 gr. 71.0 - 10.65 = 60.35 gr. Assuming a guess the 30-06 produces 51.72 ft velocity for one grain of H414. To gain another 84 ft would need another 2.0 gr. in the 30-06 to reach 3084. But since a larger case is less efficient more powder is needed in the 30 R. Start with 60.0 gr of H414 and check the velocity and pressure signs. Increase load at 0.5 gr intervals. Do not exceed 3084 ft. if the rifle or cases shows signs of pressure use a slower powder like "Reloader 19" and do the same as above to find the starting load. I used H414 because it works well in cases like 30-06 and the 300Win Mag with 150 gr bullets. In a good 30-06 a 150 gr bullet can do 3100 ft. at about 60000 PSI. Break open rifles can not be loaded to that pressure, hence the larger case with more powder to get top 30-06 velocities with lower pressures. The 30R Blaser about the same as a 30-06 in a good bolt action but using more powder. If the OAL is less than mine in your gun, that means a reduction in fill volume and a reduction of powder charge. 100% load fill density is always from the underside of the bullet. A barrel shorter than 24" requires a reduction of 35ft per inch. So a 22" barrel in a break open gun 30R Blaser, 3000 ft would be max. Fred M. zermel@shaw.ca

To my memory the .30R is not based on the 9.3x74R - unique case with its own head dimensions. Will check tonight, to refresh my memory. Fuhrmann

As I noted in my post, the head is indeed larger, enough so I myself wouldn't use the 9.3 to form it. The rim is the correct thickness, but not the base diameter. Reading between the lines of my post, one might gather I think the 30R to be of little worth.

asdf, right, I was in a hurry and obviously did not read your post entirely. I'd also start with a 9.3x74R, more cases around. Fuhrmann

Harry I have a K 95 Stutzen in 308. I have not had any problems with the rimless round. I would recommend your client get his K 95 in an American caliber, assuming he lives in the USA. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Does anyone in the US chamber to .30R Blaser? Would be a good cartridge for a High Wall Winchester, I have one in .30-40 with a custom barrel that could be rechambered .... would not alter a factory barrel but this one is not a collector's piece.

vigillinus It could be done except for the rim. The Blaser has a smaller amd thinner rim. The barrel would have to be set back 0.064 to get rid of the Krag rim. Or an insert made to fit into the Krag recess with the Blaser rim. Perhaps you can rent a 30 Blaser reamer. Fred M. zermel@shaw.ca

Merkel K1 from GSI comes in 30R Blaser. they were parctically giving away the barrels whenintroduced. may be some around still. I looked at it and passed, as it will not survive long. IMHO
