I have been doing some research on this forum on resolving encore accuracy issues. can somebody please tell me the forend tricks wether it be the rubber washers or the hanger system, whatever that is. The custom ported barrell, custom trigger job, and custom hinge pin are still not allowing me to get better than big 1.5 inch to 2 inch groupings in my 300 win mag. she doesnt kick, and she fits great, she just doesnt shoot well..(my three other guns that I shoot, 2 300 winnys and 1 30-06 all shoot MOA groups) so I dont need a bad shooting gun, but I do love the look and feel of this gun. Thanks for your help. W.

Stratton's hanger bar system has worked great for me - although if you are shooting patterns like that, I'd be looking elsewhere for your fix. How much breech to barrel clearance do you have when it is locked up?

Thanks, I all of my stuff are bellm. I just got off the phone with Kurt bellm. I am looking at one major issue, and then I will move onto the spacing. The first issue I have is the ammo I am using is too hot. To make a long story short, I was using custom ammo built by a ammo company. I gave them the recipe I got from another guy who used the another gun I was shooting before me. Anyways, the guys recipe was just too hot. Glad I found this out thanks to kurts help before I ruinded a bunch of barrells, let alone my life. If that doesnt cure it, I will go to the head spacing. I am going to get this project shooting. Its just a cool gun. THanks, W.

I have tried the Stratton Custom Hanger Bar on an Encore I used to have. It didn't help mine. I ended up having my local gunsmith pillar bed my forend, which I have had him do to my current Encore as well. My Encore has the Factory Synthetic Buttstock and Forend. There are 3 stiffening crossbars in the synthetic forend that stick up higher than the pillars that the screws pass through. The first thing I did was to dremel down those 3 stiffening crossbars so the barrel sat on the screw pillars. That in and of itself helped a lot. My gunsmith then Put steel pillars for the screws to pass through and created two saddles that were the exact contour of the barrel for the barrel to sit on. Once finished my gunsmith told me to shoot it a bit with the screws torqued to different torque settings to see what the magic combination was. After a lot of shooting I learned that mine liked to be torqued to 15 InLbs for both the front and rear forend screws. This made a world of difference in how my new Encore shoots. Larry

I super glued two steel washers in the stock where the bolt comes through. In effect this free floats the forearm.I use a 6.5/55 & 223 and both shoot sub inch.I also use the EA Brown pin and Bellm trigger and hammer springs.Maybe you just have a ho hum barrel.Another thing is to float the Ears of the forearm that protrude over the action.

Interesting ideas ! I have to work on my Kimber Montana .First to check on the glass bedding and pillar ,then to try thin strips of rubber under the forearm.

Which barrel are you using? The T/C Encore or the T/C Pro-Hunter?

First off, I have never had accuracy issues with any of the Encores I have owned, but I also have hangar bars on two of them. The other might just be a fluke. My son has had a T/C custom shop 270 Win barrel with a factory camo stock for nearly 10 years (no hangar bar or washers), and it is one of the most boring guns I have ever seen. It shoots factory Win Supreme 140 gr Accubond ammo into one hole at 100 yards and has ever since I bought for him. I don't see why the washers wouldn't work fine.

I've tried hanger bars with a couple of Encore barrels and can't say they improved accuracy for me. Out of the bunches of Encore barrels I've had, I had a 30/06 barrel that shot worse than yours but was fixed by T/C. I had another 30/06 barrel that with a bunch of load fiddling wouldn't consistently do better than about 1.5 inches at 100 yards & the hanger bar made no difference with that one. For what it's worth, here is a load that works well for me in my 300 Win. Mag. Pro Hunter with no hanger bar:
