I am looking for information from shooters who have used the Merkel K-1. I am cosidering a slightly used Merkel K-1 in 7mm. Rem. That is not my first choice in calibers for this rifle, but what I used for my first 7 elk, plus lots of deer and antelope. One of the things that appeals to me is that I can use break the rifle down and put it in a short case in a duffel bag for traveling. Thanks for any information you can give me. Dale

Dale: The K-1 is a bit more traditional looking than the Blaser K95. It is still a neat and accurate rifle and a good friend of mine used his to kill a lot of North Dakota deer the last few years of his life. Your right about the takedown feature, you will like that very much.

Hi Dale, the K-1 is a realy nice and handy rifle. I shot it sometimes when I was out with a friend. It's a good choice for a hunter looking for a lightweight rifle. Only the stock can suffer in tough conditions.

Does anyone else have field experience with the K-1? This rifle seems like a dream to carry and shoot, but I've been wrong before about light rifles. The jist of it is...is it accurate and how well does it shoot from field positions?

I have handled the K1, but not shot one. I have a Blaser K 95 Stutzen and like it quite a bit. The slimness and handling qualities of the K 1 and K 95 are very good. My K 95 is very accurate. The take down feature is great for travel. As to the 7mm Mag, if you think about it it is not a bad choice. You do not always have to load it full throttle. There are good hunting bullets from 120gr to 175gr. Plenty powerful, and flat shooting enough for amy game normally hunted with a single shot. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY
