Finally purchased a Pedersoli Hiwall 38/55 with a fast 1:12 barrel. With a starting load of 50gn Swiss No.2 and the very excellent Paul Jones 370gn Creedmoor bullet, shots regularly printed in the black
whilst foreforming the long Starline cases.

A very pleasant rifle well suited for the recoil sensitive who may otherwise not shoot BPCR matches with the usual big bores.

You quit them old Sharpes and went modern?

I always thinking about a third High Wall or a second Sharps rifle, chambered for the .38-55.
At the moment, I saw a new Shiloh rifle, a sporter #1, on a storage list of the only Shiloh dealer here in south Germany. But the price is about 3000.-€ without any sights. Toooo much for me.

I understand the use of the heavy bullets for BPCR but it seems that you are getting up into the realm or the varius 40-70s and 40-65s with their 400 grain bullets. The recoil would would be gin to approach the bigger bore especially if the Peedy is lighter than the 12 lb limits some use.
I would like a .38-55 so I could use some of the light 270 grn bullets. Have you tried anything like that for plinking?
Needless to say with a Highwall I not much of a BP shooter.

The rifle is just on 11lb and compared to my old 45/90 and 50/90, it is just a dream to shoot.
The fast twist x long bullet combinations just seem to handle the wind very well and are extremely accurate as well. I also have a 45/120 with a 1:14" twist that shoots a 600gn nose pour bullet from Old West Scrounger.

As a black powder cartridge, the 38/55 is a very efficent one getting 27fps per grain of BP campared to 18fps/gn for the 45/70 and 11fps/gn for the 50/90

Recoil wasn't a problem in my younger days but the old bones are a shakin lately!

have you seen the Lyman 330gr round nose yet?
I have been shooting one in my 38-90 for a couple years.
