Ok guys, help me out here. I've long wanted one of the Browning 1885 Low Walls in .260 Rem. Never saw one in the flesh. Well, a local shop got one in on consignment in mint condition. Price is $1,200 with 3x9 Leupold, $900 without. I'm thinking about buying it without. Don't really have the spare $$$ but that's what plastic is for. I don't see a lot of 1885's around so is $900 fair?
SC - The gun cost the dealer about $700 new (depending on who the initial distributor was). I haven't seen any in a .260 Rem., which should be a "dynamite" cartridge for that rifle. If the wood was really good ("mint condition") and the mounts and rings were thrown in , I would sure snap it up even if I couldn't get it for less. Let the scope go though; the used scope (even a Leupold) isn't worth $300 with ring marks on the tube (as they all have once they've been mounted). Good luck - Mags

Well, I couldn't stand it anymore. I bought it this morning. Got him down to $875. The gun is in cherry condition and has knockout wood. The bases are on it and the seller supposedly has some ammo that he will get to me later. I'm really not in the position to be spending that money right now {bought way too many guns lately!} but I knew I'd kick myself if I let it go. Now I have to spring for another scope. I just bought a like new Zeiss Conquest 3x9 but it's too big for this little gun and it's matte finished. This gun calls for a trim, compact, gloss scope so I'm leaning towards a Leupold 2-7 or possibly a 6x. I hope it shoots as good as it looks! I'll keep you posted.
Glad to hear you have bought the gun. It was my birthday 4 weeks ago just as a Ruger No 1 RSI in 7x 57 came up for sale, in as new condition, at a price 2/3rds of a new one. I just could not help myself, it's in my gun cabinet now and I am very pleased with it.
