I have one of the first Model 11's (single digit serial number) and it is in 223 with an additional barrel and forearm being fitted now at Luxus in 9.3x74r with open sights.
I am going to order a Custom grade Model 11 in a month or so in a "middle" caliber so I can have two complete rifles in either a small caliber and a medium caliber with me at the same time or a medium and large caliber at the same time.
What caliber would you order and why? I am thinking of something somewhere between 260 Rem and 30-06.

I really like the 6.5 class or cartridges and as a second choice, the 308Win. You get better ballistic performance with the 6.5's over the .30's, and you can find 308 ammo everywhere in the world.
6.5x55. It's a classic and perfect for the little Luxus

As we discussed the othe night, I like a mid weight caliber on this frame. I believe the 7mm-08 or the 6.5 Swede would be about as good as a guy could get. I suspect a 22 caliber along with the 6.5 would cover a lot of ground for the guy who likes to shoot single shots. Like me.

I picked a 7x57 for a "middle" caliber in my Luxus. 7-08 would work too. I had thought of the 7-30 Waters which is one of my favorite cartridges, but the Luxus kept whispering that it wanted to be a 7x57.

I've tried unsuccessfully to get with the Merkel rep to see about getting a stutzen barrel for my K1. I think if I order a Luxus I'll ask Adam if he can do a 9.3 x 74R @ 22"

I just ordered my second in 280 Rem. I purchased my first in 308 and ordered 300 Win and a 375 H&H barrels as well.I was a little Leary about the 375 in such a light rifle but after talking to Adam I decided to go ahead. The recoil of the 375 feels about the same as my 45/70 guide gun wich to me isn't bad at all.
Yes, that should be one of the standard calibers. And if you don't plan on leaving the country with it (headstamp issues) have it marked as a 275 Rigby.

The strong front runner is a 7x57 marked as 275 Rigby. This got put off a little as I bought a two barrel set in the new Model 11S. It is a 308 Winchester and a 22 Hornet. I have enough Hornet ammo hoarded to shoot the rest of my life and probably my kids lives. Luxus is also finishing up my 9.3x74r barrel for my original Model 11. My new work project is going to allow me more time than I have had in years to shoot. I am ready...

I now have two Model 11's with 4 barrels in 22 Hornet, 223, 308 Win, and 9.3x74r. It is a great rifle and I think I am ready for anything I'll ever shoot with these chamberings.
