My Ruger #1 7x57 had a serious case of vertical stringing-up to 6" at 100 yards.

I had my 'smith install a Hicks Accurizer and took it to the range yesterday.

With the tensioner screw just touching the barrel, I still got 4" vertical (and <1" horizontal, as usual).

As I tightened the tensioner screw, things got better.

With 3/4 turn of tension, the rifle turned in a nice 2" triangle group.

Then, at 1 1/4 turn and with 5 rounds of very accurate PMC 175 grainers left, 2 shots touched (.080"). I moved the crosshairs up 2" and the last three rounds went into .743"

Then, still at 1 1/4 turns, my last three rounds of a reload of 48 gr of W-760/140 grain Remington PSPCL/WLR/PMC case/3.080" OAL went into .402".

I'm okay with that and will retest when I have time.

Ross S. wrote an article years ago on making a tensioner for No.1`s.Basically the same as what you are using.I installed three on #1`s and they really work.

Yeah, this one does. I was about ready to put the #1 in the recyclables bin.

I have had two of the Hicks Accurizers for awhile, and finally got around to putting one on my #1-S in 9.3x62. I shot the first group with the setscrew just touching the barrel with just enough tension to keep the accurizer stable. 5 shots went into 0.88" at 100 yards. I increased the tension by 1/4 turn and shot 2 5-shot groups that went 1.06" and 0.88", then was out of time. I am really impressed with the results.

My load was the 286 gr. Nosler partition, Fed. 210 primer, 58.0 gr. RL-15, OAL 3.30".

It took about 1.5 hours to cut the recess in the forend for the accurizer. The Dremel tool gets hot pretty quickly, so I spent a lot of time letting it cool. I also did quite a bit of measuring and took my time so I would not cut too much out. For the Alexander Henry forend there is not a lot of room for error.

Dale, glad your Hicks worked for you, too. I'm a believer as I like #1's but don't like unaccurate rifles.

I've been trying to talk myself into buying a Hicks ever since I bought my No 1 (270 Win).

My gun puts three shots into just over an inch at 100 yards so I haven't really needed to do it yet. But, one of these days.........
