At a gunshow recently I saw one of these. The round they had displayed looked like it came from the short/fat magnum school of thought. I'm used to seeing the 50cal elephant cartridges so this one looked short in relation. Can anyone elaborate on the ballistics of this round? Any "real world" advantage over 45-70? Sure the bullet's fatter, but how fast is it going, and at what pressures? Will rifle bullets still leave enough powder space? Is it even possible to stabilize pistol bullets in a 22 or 24" barrel? I ask this last question because I think some of the accuracy issues I've had with a lever-action 44Mag are due to incompatible twist rate. Anyway, any info would be appreciated. I thought it was a little bizarre at first, but then "rational" doesn't really apply to wildcatting and re-chambering. | ||
