I ordered a new Pedersoli Sharps Long Range Creedmore today in 50/70.
Anyone use similar in a single shot with BP?

Is .45-100 close enough?

There is a lot of folks shooting the bp cartridge rifles as they were intended. However, not a lot of them are shooting the .50-70. But have at it. It is a fine cartridge and a fine rifle.

Brent,
I already have 40/65, 45/70 and 45/120 just thought I'd try something different in the 50/70.
I have some cases but 70gn FFG fills em to the top with no room for a bullet. I figure about 62gn might be about right to allow for wads & bullet.

that sounds about right. You will want a thin wad and a good bit of compression I think. This is one reason why folks like the .50-90, or a long tapered throat or bore riding bullet nose.
