I just made a 24" drop tube for loading 45-70 BPCR stuff. Does it matter what material the funnel is on top? I know we are trying to keep static electricity at a minimum, but Is a plastic funnel okay?
TIA
Glenn.

The only reason to be concerned about static electricity is the tendency for the powder to cling to the plastic. Tests have proven that static electicity will not ignite BP, so no worries there.

I'm using a plastic funnel on mine. After a few powder drops there is no problem with static. You can also wash the funnel in dishsoap and water and let it dry without wiping. The layer of soap seems to help a lot.

My drop tube is a store bought brass tube and brass funnel. Sits in a nice oak stand.

You could also use a dryer sheet to wipe out the funnel real good and remove the static charge that way.

I think the static thing is over rated anyway.

Thanks for the info. I didn't wan't to accidentally blow up the loading bench. I used a 2' piece of 1/2" copper pipe and soldered in a 1/2-3/8 reducer bushing. The bushing will just slide over the mouth of a 45-70.
Now if I could only find some Swiss BP in town.
