I see that Ruger #1 is available in 45-70. Is that new ? The 22" barrel makes it a perfect woods gun just like my cut down 1885 Browning.

No, that´s not "new".
Ruger introduced the #1 rifle in the year 1967. Since 1969 the #1 is chambered for the .45-70. In the first year as a tropical model, with the 24" barrel, but since 1970 as medium sporter, with the 22" barrel.
A friend is having a #1 in .45-70. I have a .480Ruger. It´s a great rifle.

I just received two # 1s in45/70 --a special run in 45/70 with the 26" barrel and circassian walnut stocks. It is the way they should have been made all along( in my humble opinion). It has the classic "English" look, and now my only problem is whether or not to make into a 45x31/4" I really like the way those long cases go "thunk" when they slide into the chamber. Cheers , Luke

I have the Stainless / Laminated Stock #1 in 45-70. Brand new, just picked it up. Haven't shot it yet but it sure looks nice!

Check out this one! Thinking I might upgrade the stock on mine to something like this.

I've had mine for about a decade. Shoots very well. Only negative comment I have is I hate the laminate stocks, but fearful to change anything because of how well it shoots.

Bigluke: A No. 1 with 26-inch barrel? Great snag!

I don't see stainless steel listed for the # 1 on the website. How often are they made. They look great with the Luxus stock.

I have a Ruger #1 in 45/70 laminated/stainless and it shoots great. I have decided to sell it since my marlin 1895 Satinless gives me a warmer fuzzy feeling in bear country with additional rounds in the magazine. Great elk medicine in the timber.

God, guns, & guts made us free. Let's keep all three!

Hello Bill--Yeah, I guess I was in the right place at the right time. Lipseys had somewhere around 125 of these, and I ordered two right away--tried to get more to sell to others, but in four days they were gone. It surely is a beautiful rifle. I think I will take to Africa next year -certainly I see a pig hunt in its future. I have a #1 in .303 British, but it has the 22" bbl. I wish it had the 26" medium contour barrel like this one. Sure has the "English" look! Cheers, Luke

I had a 26" Douglas barrel installed on mine. It's more accurate and a lot more comfortable to shoot.
