Did H&R ever make a 22 hornet with a .223 bore?
My new(old)hornet is blowing primers with the starting loads of LittleGun! This is with 40 grian moly bullets! Thanks 338vt

I had my H&R .22 Hornet back in the 70's. I shot 8.0 hr of 4227. That was a very slow round that gave me a group you could cover with a nickel at 150 yeards.

Woould it cost that much to get a box of .223 diameter bullets.

If I can find them I'm going to try some cast bullets throu it.

Don't know about the hornet, but I have an H&R 357 mag with a .355" bore. It blows primers too, unless I load it with 9mm slugs.

I have a Martini (BSA)that i tried.223prgs in as was a very early convertion but I went back to .224 due to a fall of off accuracy.Idid find though it was not wise to go any heigher than 10% LOWER than MAX loads.With AR2205 (approx equivalent ofIMR4227) failure to do this ended with Primers just starting to push out.

Both Hornady and Sierra still offer .223 diameter bullets for the hornet. Did you slug your barrel? Best to check it first and make sure that is the problem. Also check your lot of LilGun and make sure it's not the recall lot. This is the first time I've heard of excess pressure sign in the hornet with that powder.

What do you mean "blowing primers"? If you mean they are simply backed out, that can be an indication of a very low pressure load, headspace issues, etc.

A photo of a fired case would help us analyze your problem.

have to ask... are you using small rifle or small pistol primers? Pistol primers will work, but they are softer than rifle primers, and will show flattening, etc before rifle primers do...
