I've been through this in the past.
In most cases the screw holes that hold the rib on are too deep to allow for a reboar job.

You can check that yourself. Just mic the barrel at that point and use a depth mic in the screw hole(s) & do the math. You really don't need much metal in the bottom of a hole up where the rib/sights are located. <1/16".
