The lug is where the Tally failed. Anymount can shear apart under recoil. The lighter the rifle and the heavier the scope, and the more the recoil compounds the issue. You are right about that, it does leave more rifles for the rest of you. Smithson would either put a sleave the barrel on a single shot or solder on the bases in addition to machining them. To: Big Wonderful Wyoming. The single shot rifle you attribute to Smithson was actually stocked by Darwin Hensley, I handled the rifle in his shop as it was being stocked. Not a knock on Joe's work, just wanted to give credit where it's due. | |||

What is the twist rate of the barrel? Might be a mis-match in bullet weight. Keyword - might. Hope you find the sweet spot with your ammo.
