Was thinking of the NEF 45 Colt single shot Rifle and having it re reemed out to .454 casull or .460 S&W Mag the fram can handle it I have the .500 S&W mag in one.....and it has handle some of my custom bullets and loads...

Has any one done this ???? or know of some one ???i was realy leaning twards the .454 more than the 460

I see no reason why this could not be done. The question would be, is the NEF action strong enough to hold those two rounds...... They operate at pressures higher than the standard HP rifle cartridges!

The Casull works great in rechambered H&R 45 Colt Carbines, my gunsmith has done several, the 460 has a case head that's just .008" large than the 270 Winchester with pressures to 65kpsi which is a factory available H&R chambering, the hottest loads Hodgdon lists for the 460 are right at 57kpsi. I'd already have mine rechambered to 460 if anyone had a 460 reamer for rent, but so far the only source is to buy one from Pacific for $147.

The 500S&W Handi works great with hot loads in it, max Hodgdon operating pressures are right at 52kpsi, but the case head is considerably larger at.526".

I haven't done mine to the Casull, those reports were from the customers my smith did the rechambers for. I decided the cost was the same for either rechamber, might as well do the 460, I can still shoot Casull in it, but I'm still waitin on the 460 reamer to rent.

I've only shot 250gr jacketed bullets in Starline Colt brass so far, 1900fps+ with 250gr JDHPs and SSTs, I'll shoot the 300gr SSTs and 275gr XPB in the 460.
