little bit ago i glommered onto a refinished highwal; with a winchester barrel and a hh sedgly stamp on it in one of my favorite rounds 219 donaldson. finally got out yesterday to shoot it. ^%$#^&(% 20" group. i guess that doesn't come as a huge surprise being of that age and probably had a few rounds down the barrel. but it just seems like quite a shame to replace that barrel

Is a barrel liner a possibility?

Knowing of you, I assume a good cleaning/decoppering was done before testing.
More than one load tested
What are you calling bad grouping?

RELINE???
Mine provided me with the smallest group I have ever shot, way back when and I have shot it very little since

Before you get too excited, check the twist in the barrel. Years ago I bought a Shelhamer high wall and shot it with benchrest bullets... 52 gr. The first shot went exactly where I wanted. The second shot keyholed thru the next target over. "Oh, S**T!"

Shelhamer had used a barrel off a Model 52 that had a twist for a rimfire. Shorter, fatter bullets cured the problem.

It has to be more than a shot out barrel, even rough barrels don't shoot into 20 inches..Check the twist, I recall some off size 22 caliber varmint guns back then..Those were the heyday of the wildcatters and they came up with some real over the top stuff..
