I just got a Super 14 Contender in 222 of all things unfired.I plan to get a full folding stock so I can use the rifle barrels. The wood stock aint made for the kind of hunting this gun will be doing. What all cailbers have you had good luck in the carbine in.I wish I could find a 375 win carbine .They made them a few years back.I was wondering if the new 375 jdj carbine barrel will work on this older unfired contender.I would not mind a 25-35 win either just for play. The late Bob Mikey had contenders for 250 -3000, will that work as a carbine?Hopefully TC comes out with a 209 Ruger carbine barrel also.I want to use weaver bases and Burris Signature rings so I can change the scopes around. If you buy a 14 " pistol barrel what do you have to add to it besides 2" to make it a legal rifle barrel?I have heard of people using muzzle breaks to do this.

The late Bob Milek (not "Mikey") shot a custom XP in .250 Savage, not a Contender. Only a few folks will chamber for this round as it is a bit much for the Contender if you aren't careful. A 250 IMP suits the single shots better and, as long as you stick to STANDARD .250 load data and never exceed it, the IMP version works extremely well and with minimum backthrust against the frame due to its case shape. It makes for a fine medium game round out to a bit over 200 yards and is a fantastic varminter as well. But the .257 JDJ (based on a blown-out .225 Win case) works just as well and is actually a bit more-user friendly for someone not acquainted with the intricacies of the single shots.

Oops...I forgot to answer the rest of your questions. Yes, you can add a 2 1/4 inch muzzle brake to make your Super 14 barrel into one that will work as either a carbine or pistol rig, but the brake must be permanent. The new G2 barrels should work just fine on your older frame (from what vintage is it?). I've had carbine barrels in a variety of calibers, and most have come and gone with little fanfare. But there's one I simply will not part with. It's a 20" untapered barrel in 7mm Bullberry, and it is the sweetest shooting carbine barrel I have ever had the pleasure of working with. You can cobble together almost any load and shoot well under MOA, and the best loads are simply outstanding. I shoot it a bunch and have the utmost confidence in it. ANd, I have found a way that one does not need to size and trim 30-30 brass. I simply use 7mm US brass from Eben Brown, fireform it and thus have my 7mm Bullberry. The cases formed from the 7mm US brass come up just short of the optimum 7mm Bullberry length, but the accuracy has never suffered. BTW, my favorite hunting load is the 130 grain Sierra Single Shot Pistol bullet at 2505 fps. Pressures are extremely mild and cases simply fall out of the chamber.

I have .22Lr 30-30Win and .222Rem barrels. .22 and 30-30 I used in silouet competition (production pistol) and .222 just for fun. I have changed all sight to "BOMAR" sights,I recomend that if you want real accurasy,or its a must if you do competition. Elias

I 've had 7-30 Waters in a carbine that was a TC custom shop that shot ok....decent hunting accuracy. A .221 Rem Bullberry carbine thats shoots excellent. A 6mm 30-30 VVCG that is extremely accurate and far exceeds the abilities of the owner. I have a .357 Max that I am having built by VVCG that I expect to be a fine shooter as well. Also have several future projects in mind in .358 Bellm, and 7mm and of course something in a .25 cal.
