Finally got back in the No. 1/3 safe far enough to pull out this cutie. Loaded up a "middle of the road" 4227 load and corn meal filler with 190 NEI driving bands gas check cast from std Lyman metal. Found a minty El Paso K6 "in the scope box" with the double crosshairs and off to the range. Wasted one for a sighter @ 50 and then 5 more you could cover with a Quarter.
Moved back to 100 and was pleased with the results of a 190 gr bullet at 1600 fps. No recoil to speak of and barrel fried cornmeal smells nice too.

I do like those NO.3's. Picked up one from this site some years ago and had it rebarreled using heavier and slightly longer barrel, shortened forearm to do away with band, had stock checkered, added NECG front sight and so far only used the Rem.405's w/ 3031. Added Leup. 2.5xUltra Lite w/ post and makes for very handy powerful rifle. My NO.3 was initially in 22Hornet,now 45/70, but easy to convert to about any caliber desired by changing out extractor to match the case head, rimmed or not rimmed. Using heavier loads felt the heavier barrel would be a plus, but you can load up to where you don't want to go. The 405's work great and moderately heavy loads, not that bad at all. Did add a leather pad to mine. I'll try some of your loads, good info.

Instructor,
Could you by chance post some pictures? I'd love to see your rifle and I'm sure others here would as well.

degoins,
I will do so if I can ever figure out this new computer just bought not long ago. Was on this site for quite a while and storm wasted everything. I supposedly have a NIKON Photo lab program but having problem finding it now?? Under previous name, MFD, did at earlier time post photos of it, but let me see what I can do. "better half" skilled at these things and will recruit her to help out.

Sad to see the "stalking troll" is back pirating another thread. As I have him on ignore, I'm sure his contribution was of great value.... LOL.

Instructor, that redone #3 sound really nice.
I thought about new wood for mine as the stock in VERY plain and I confess to being a wood freak.
(One of my No.1s, a 375 H&H African red pad redone in English red)

We'll see what happens with the economy and IF I can persuade the world's greatest stockmaker to come out of retirement for one last project.
