I want a long barrel 45-70. If I order a 280 handi rifle and a Buffalo classic barrel and fore end, will it work? thanks, capt david Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

I believe you would need to buy a .280 rem handi, then send the frame in for a BC barrel. As far as H&R fitting the BC barrel to the SB2 .280 frame, I don't think that would be a problem but I'd make sure they will do that first. Email them at hr1871@hr1871.com or call em at (978)630-8220

I don't believe the Buffalo Classic has a tang. If you are planning to get the most out of a BPCR a tang is the way to go. As for accuracy i used to shoot an H&R Handi Rifle in 45-70 and was very pleased with the guns capabilities as shown when it wore a scope. Five shot groups well under an inch were the norm but when wearing other sights the short sighting plane was a definite disadvantage. I had mounted an tang sight by drilling one hole in the rear of the action and embedding a threaded nut in the front part of the stock using epoxy. The sight was stable but there still remains the possible movement of the barrel and the front sight in relationship to the rear sight in any gun with a barrel that must be moved and replaced after every shot.Mine seemed to return to an acceptable position and still gave good 100 yard groups. A 20 inch sighting radius versus the 34 to 36 + inches on other rifles made competition at 500 meters too much for me.
Mounting a tang sight behind the longer barrel of a Buffalo Classic may avoid this problem. If you are interested in entering competitions check on the rules of various groups as at one time the H&R actions did not qualify as an original action according to some governing bodies.
