With the number of single shot rifles on the market with inter-changeable barrels why isn't someone offering barrels in someolder calibres such as 35 Win,33 win,348 win . These were all rather potent calibres in their day and would still be well suited for deer, black bears, wild boar and even elk and moose at reasonable ranges. With replacement barrels for the H&R Handi rifle running around $100 a person could play with several of these calibres and not break the bank. It seems to me that there is a market that is not being serviced. What calibre would you like to see??
Those particular cartridges you mention were for repeaters and not single shots! The nostalgia group might go for a black powder round first don't you think?
Savage 99 The 270,280,30-06,308 and 30-30 were also designed for repeating rifles but H&R is marketing barrels in those calibres. I mentioned the calibres that I did because they are all rimmed cases that work nicely in a single shot
C. A. Plater, You have my attention. Who made your .405 Win? I would like details! How well does it shoot, loads, all of that good stuff. I have been looking for one of the No. 1s in .405 but it doesn't seem like they are becoming available to quickly. So I was looking at the Encore route.
My one wish is that somebody would offer an ejector on their custom barrels, and maybe a retrofit for the barrels I own.
Anyway, thanks in advance. Sean

This is a Van Horn barrel. 24 inches and in a heavy profile (sometimes mass is your friend) with a matte finish. I have yet to do lots of shooting with it because I need to finish the forend properly. I did do a couple of boxes of Hornaday factory and you know you been shooting. I have a 7mm Mag barrel for the Encore and the recoil is sharper than the .405 but less of a push. I'm still working on custom loads and so far the funest practice load is 45 grains of IMR4895 pushing a Leadhead 270 grain cast bullet. Getting this baby up and read is on my to-do list but is a lower priority until after deer season and I have time to work on the stock.

On Target Technologies could do a 405 Winchester barrel for you in either the older 405 bore (.412"?) of a .410" so you can shoot pistol bullets. My Competitor barrel is a .410" bore and i have had purty good luck with the pistol bullets out of it! Send Mike Sirois an email, i am sure he would be happy to build ya one.
