After a long plane ride, we had two different Encore's that would consistently not fire the first time the trigger was pulled. You could see where the firing pin had struck the primer but not enough to set it off. After the guns were cocked again and fired it would go off. After being fired quite a bit we had less and less trouble with them not going off on the first trigger pull. Both frames are two years old and never had this problem until out hunting trip. Any ideas on what the cause was or a solution so that it will not happen again.

I had the same thing happen - T/C tried to blame it on a trigger extention when i called them. I didn't admit i had one one it. But T/C had me send it back to to them and I believe they put in a stronger spring in the action. Never had another problem - that was 2 years ago. And I had my rifle back in my hands 2 1/2 weeks after I sent it. Fast turn around. Call T/C !! Lance Lance Larson Studio lancelarsonstudio.com

I have some TCR-87's and had this happen. Some loads resulted in a slight cratering of the primmers. This is not a problem with bolt actions as the cratering stays with the primer when the case is ejected. However, any part of the primer which has cratered back into the firing pin hole in a break-over gun will probably be sheared off when the gun action is opened. Where does the primer metal go? At least some of it builds up between the firing pin and its hole. This slows down or otherwise makes the firing pin not have enough force to set off the primer. I've had to scrape metal from the firing pin and hole a couple times. After that the problem was fized. The trick is to use a magnifying glass and something small like a needle or very sharp pointed knife to do the scraping. It's difficult if one needs bifocals and don't have them with.
