I have a 2011 Shot Show Winchester M1885 in 45-70 in great shape. It was just pointed out to me that the trigger will not go to half cock. Any idea what the issue may be? The gun is used but new to me. Also would anyone have any idea how many of these were produced in 45-70? Thanks in advance for ANY input!!

Do you mean that the hammer will not go to half cock?

On a new rifle it is a concern, on old rifles it could be worn hammer notches, even rust in the notch that won't let the hammer catch.

Some of the old muskets and 22 shorts were actually made to stop on half cock when the action was worked and you had to manually cock them the rest of the way.

I don't know about any SHOT show special versions but you can buy the 45.70 today.

Yes ,please accurately describe the problem.
Mine is an earlier version sold under the Browning name. I had no problems though had to take it apart to re-blue . There is a trick to return in proper sequence. A sweet rifle in a great 45-70 cartridge !

My problem is pretty clear. I do not have a half cock option on my 1885 2011 manufacture rifle. One member has suggested the 1885 does not have a half cock feature. This is my first 1885 so I don't know what to expect or believe. I have never had this rifle apart BUT did the previous owner? Thanks for looking....

Oops, sorry but my Browning 1885 , does NOT have a half cock notch. Does the owners manual state the fact ? they should as makers are very safety conscience these days .

I have two Brownings and one 2010 Win Shot Show special that all have half cock. Have to release the trigger and let them down with finger off the trigger.
