I am looking at picking up a B78 in .22-250. I have had one of the B85s, but was wondering how the B78s shoot, and especially in .22-250. One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas I'll never know. - Groucho Marx

Never owned a B78, but I have owned several low walls, one in .22-250 with the octagonal barrel. It was a real tack driver and very beautiful JP Sauer Drilling 12x12x9.3x72 David Murray Scottish Hammer 12 Bore Alex Henry 500/450 Double Rifle Steyr Classic Mannlicher Fullstock 6.5x55 Steyr Classic Mannlicher Fullstock .30-06 Walther PPQ H2 9mm Walther PPS M2 Cogswell & Harrison Hammer 12 Bore Damascus And Too Many More

I have one with a round bull barrel in that caliber that does quite well.

Their triggers can be fussy. My gunsmith had a .25-06 and he loved it but was always cussing that darned trigger because it wouldn't hold a constant pull. Quick, Cheap, or Good: Pick Two

I have a friend who has one in 22-250. Its is a tackdriver. I have one in 30.06, also a tackdriver. The trigger is ok. The only thing I don't care for is the clearance between the hammer and the scope. It's a little tight with gloves on. Otherwise very nice rifles.

I had a 78 in 22/250 many years ago, wish I'd kept it now. It was a bit picky about loads but shot the cheapo red box federal very well and some selected handloads extremely well. It had a bad habit of shifting zero for no reason I could ever find, and I got mad one day and traded it off.

I don't recall which # it was but I had what they called the "Black Powder Hunter", I believe. It was in 45-70 and it wouldn't hold a candle to either of my Shiloh Sharps. Good rifle and accurate enough, just not in the same class as the Shiloh. DRSS: E. M. Reilley 500 BPE E.
