I just received a Ruger 1-S in 300 WinMag, and I unexpectedly found a set of Ruger scope rings in the box.

Did I just get lucky here? I didn't think that #1's with iron sights also came with rings.

This is my first #1 and I am looking forward to playing with it. I got one of the NECG peep sights to go with it and intend to shoot it with heavy for caliber bullets.

Not knowing that I was going to get a set of rings, I bought a set of Redfield rings. Anyone have Redfield vs. Ruger ring experience? I can still return the Redfields for a period of time.

Thanks,

Steve

The Ruger rings are pretty good.....I used to buy aftermarkets for the No. 1, but recently went with the factory version on my .405 Win. I'd definitely give them a try on your .300.

Steve,

All my 1S's came with rings. Heavy for the caliber bullets is a fine idea. My 300 Winny used 220 grain Nosler Partition, over 76 grains H-1000, Federal Cases, and Federal 215 Primer. Yields around 2750 FPS. Very accurate, around 3/4" in my Ruger.

Yes they come with rings for the most part, the box should state iron sights, rings or whatever the setup is...Ruger rings are very strong and excellet quality...

The Ruger rings will DEFINITELY stand up to heavy recoil, like the 57 Ft/lb shock of a heavy .45/70 load....

The Ruger #1 models with open sights USED to come with scope rings. For about the past 5 years they have not, that according to my friendly, neighborhood gun shop.

It came as a surprise to me a couple of years ago when I ordered a #1A 270 and expected it to some with rings. It did not.

I think you got a rifle from slightly older stock, which matters not a bit. I'm sure it's a nice rifle. The #1S is my favourite from the Ruger line.
