I'm in the mood for something a little different and am contemplating one of the Varminter rifles offered by these folks. Possibly a 6mm BR.

I've got two friends who both have them in a 22-250 and a 22-250AI - All single shot, total beauty and function - They do the job if you can do yours - I'm either getting a Cooper or the Ballard Varminter for my next rifle purchase after my JLD PTR-91 gets here.

buy it! montana varminter for sure. i have one and a pard has 4. the quality is amazing. you cant believe that would can be inletted so perfectly.
the worst one of the bunch shoots in the .4's with factory ammo.......... most .2-.3 all day and like i said, the quality is superb.....
if i fall into $1200 my next would be a 20tac or the 20br.......

I'm thinking pretty hard. Trying to decide on a Cooper in 6BR or having a rifle built for a 30BR on a 700 SA. Each has merit and each has potential pitfalls.

Hopefully, I'll make a choice soon.

My father-in-law has one. Very nice but he has a Savage that can match or beat it on the target everytime.

I have a Varminter in .223 Remington. Quality of construction and finish is excellent and the performance has been superior. It easily meets the "guarantee" of 1/2" 3-shot groups at 100 yds. Mine has done quite a few sub 1/2" 5-shot groups and I am at best an average shooter.

They are well worth the money and even the basic models have a fairly decent hunk of wood for a stock.

I have 6 Cooper's. A 22BR Varmint Extream, 257 AI VE, 6X45 Custom Classic, 2 Model 57's Montana Varminters, one 17HMR the other 22 WMR and my most recent is a Varminter in 6BR which I have not shot yet. If you like accurate rifles, you will not be disapointed.

I have a Varminter in 17 Ackley Hornet. I waited close to nine years to get my first Cooper, once I found out about them. I had other things to take care of first... finishing school, getting married, etc. The wait was worth it.

Fit and finish are excellent and the wood on mine is stunning. Looking at it straight on, it looks nice, but turn the butt away and WOW!!!

I hate to admit it, but I haven't spent a lot of time at the bench with it, yet. My wife "bought" me a safari, so I had to turn my attention to other things for the time being. But, I'll soon get it out and see what its capable of.

Like they say, you can't stop with just 1 cooper. They are great looking guns. There normal wood is good, and occasionally you get a great piece at no extra charge. I currently have 5 Coopers 2-17MachIV, 22 Tac 20, 223AI and 17 AH. Here is example of the 223AI wood.

Well, I just made the leap I have a new Cooper MTV LH in .243 on it's way! Let the one hole'ers begin!

Thank you! For me, this is a step up in a level of firearms - I'm still waiting for the glass to come in - I decided to put a Leupold VX-3 6.5-20X LR 30mm main tube with the Varmint Hunter reticle. It should top it off quite nice.

Well, after a lot of thought I've finally made my decision. The Cooper will have to wait until Christmas because I decided to have my old 22-250 Rem 700 rebuilt/rebarreled to a 30 BR. Unfortunately? I came across a nifty article on the 30 BR which is based on the 6mm BR (see http://www.6mmbr.com/30br.html) and decided to play with a 30 Cal again. What really intreged me was the reference to barrel life on the 30 BR and the fact that I have already gotten the best out of two 22-250 barrels (it dosen't take long to use one up).

I really got lucky and have the 'best' of the 'best' building the rifle, Stan Ware of SGR Custom Rifles, I'll report when the rifle comes back home.

Please let us know the results of using it in the field if you do. I currently use several bolt guns in 7.62x39 and like them. I am thinking of building another 30BR. I had one that had a tight neck and required neck turning which I will never do again. I think that it would be a good cartridge for popping small varmints.
