I wanted to get a Custom Barrel for my T/C Encore in somthing "Everyone Else" doesn't have. I have seen a couple but not too many guys have a T/C in .338win. It will be a 24" heavy barrel (.75") I had one in .300win, that shot real well, but didn't want a heavy belted mag as my only center fire. I Now have a custom, tappered 26", .270win; so the .338 should complement it well. Sounds like a good N. American, 2 rifle big game battery to me. Now for the 12 week wait, until it comes in.

Mark, Did you order the 338 from the same smith that did up your 270? Good idea going with the heavier barrel for that round...especially if you are going to be using a synthetic stock set. I was surprised at the felt recoil difference between the synthetic/rynite and a custom walnut stock when shooting heavy bullets out of my med varmint contour 300WSM. I think my next rifle length barrel is going to be a 26" 6.5-284 from DVH. Let me know how that 338 shoots. Dave

Dave, yeah I got it at the same shop. I guess I should have said T/C Custom Barrel (Foxridge Outfitters) Not a premium custom job. My T/C has the Walnut stock, I like the extra weight, for added balance. You said your next barrel is going to be from DVH, what's that? Do they have a web site?

Mark, DVH = David VanHorn a custom gunsmith in Arizona. He has a very quick turnaround time for Contender and Encore barrels. Prices are reasonable. http://www.mygunroom.com/dvgunshop/vhbarrels.html Dont be concerned that the above page states "contender only", Some of the text including pricing needs to be updated. I know for a fact he does Encores too. Doesnt take credit cards yet though. Best way to operate is send them an email detailing what you want and request a quote. They will email you back. Print the email and send it in with a money order.

Hi Mark, I have an encore 338 barrel. It's a V V 27" SS in .850 (heavy varmint I think it's called). It's a good shooter. Have one load with Hornady 225 SST that does great at 50 yds. Have several other type bullets but have not had the opportunity to work up loads yet. Did get to shoot a smallish type deer with it. Can you say m u r d e r???? Hurry up and get your barrel. I think you'll be pleased with it. HAPPY 2003
