John Taylor in Spangler WA just finished a #1 for me in 9.3x74r. It is done with an octagonal barrel which he milled from a Douglas blank. He milled the Ruger rib, which I wanted to keep, and remounted it, milled a NEGC front sight and dovetailed in a sling stud on the barrel. He also recut the foreend for the new barrel. The polish and blue on the barrel nicely matches the finish on the receiver. I have only fired about 50 rounds up to this point but two times when I put the scope on it I got four touching and one about 1/2 inch away each time. I am very pleased. www.johntaylormachine.com

I am building a Ruger#1 switch barrel. 32/40 schuetzen and a 30/338 for Elk and Big Muleys. The 32/40 is a target barrel and the 30/338 is to be about the size of the tropical model. I will also do some long range target work with the 30/338. My gun smith is Mike Ruggiero 302 875-5446 bcrw4guns@aol.com He specializes in rugger#1's and other single shot rifles. Contact him by email and tell him the man from Ashevill, North Carolina sent you.
Whiplash, Before you make a decision on corvette's recommendation, please e-mail me at ecdiet@hotmail.com, for my experiences with this recommendation. I wouldn't want you to spend as much $$$$ as I did for what I got, & went thru.

buchsenschmeid/chestspings....I live in Grand View, ID. its about 20 miles south of Mt. Home AFB.,(50 miles east of Boise just off of I-84). My #1 is in .300Win Mag. I was looking for a fresh barrel. Thought about another caliber but I already have the reloading stuff for the 300, and Iam still happy with that caliber. To make a long story short. When I first got this rifle (10yrs ago) I was not aware about over heating a barrel and shot about 80 rounds in the summer desert heat like it was a 22, needless to say the barrel was just short of smokin! I am 90% sure the throat has worn down quite a bit from that, and since then. I looked at the barrel on the eabco.com site and I like how the barrel is zero taper for the first few inches, enough to mount a picitany style mount, and not touching the reciever. Also wanted to add the Gentry quiet muzzle brake. And was wanting to have Answer's version of the Hicks Accurizer installed. Also got to shoot a new CZ Varmint rifle with the single set trigger(fell in love). So Iam looking at the Kepplingers trigger. Thats about what I was looking to do with my #1.
