.44Mag is out, leave too thin chamber walls, you will get swelling. Anything longer than anything based on 30/30 case won't work, some of those are questionable, altho some people grind out the block for clearance, poor idea. My .357Max is very close depending on which boolit I choose, I shoot a RD 190gr LFN which works OK, surprisingl the RD 170gr LFN has to be seated slightly deeper due to fatter curvature of the nose interfering. The action IMHO mainly is best suited to varmint cartridges such as .218BEE and such. I did run into one in 32/40, old boy said it kicked the snot out of him. It's a light action, I will say that my Max recoils "smartly". Hope this helps. GW

Meant to suggest Pasadena Gun Works in Pasadena, Tx., David Sayers, might be a good candidate. He and his dad before him have converted a good many Martinis. GW

I have a martini for a wildcat based on the 357 Max case necked to .224". It was chambered with a 223 Ackley reamer run in short. 3600 fps with 40 gr V-Max, excellent accuracy and easy extraction. Case length is about max for the action and I see no reason why that case couldn't be used for other calibers.
Rimmed, small diameter case. You have to be willing to form cases.
Let me know if you want more info on this concept.

Here's a pic of my friend's Martini....that he left me. It's chambered for the 17 Ackley Bee, and was built in 1968.

Here is my final Martini Mod. 12 in a special 20 cal. made from the 223 case. I have made several over the years and this is about the right size for the action. Send me a message in the PM section with an email address and I will send you a PDF file on these actions. The cadet action has thiner walls than the Model 12-15 model. I like the thick wall action so you have move metal to help shape the stock around these actions.

Bob Snapp has built a number of .30-30, .25-35, and 7x30 Waters on cadet actions. They are phenomenal rifles.

I have one in 7-30 Waters. I was advised by Bob Snapp that when going with a 30-30 based case, stick to reloading manual data and do not try to hotrod it due to the small barrel shank.

one more note - if you notice the pictures above you will wee that the scope is directly over the loading port. 30/30 derivative cases are really hard to load/unload. my 219 donaldson is thw rost in my collection. much better are rounds on smaller diameter cases. length also figures in since the block tapers upward to the rear, leaving little finger room

300 Sherwood, an original cartridge for these, launched a 140 grain bullet at about 1,400 fps. Which is pretty much .357 magnum ballistics. Seems that Westley Richards got it right from the off!

Another cartridge is the 222 Rimmed by the Australians necked to about whatever there is. I have made standard 222 Rimmed into the 17/222, the 17 Javelina [rimmed], he 25/222 [Copperhead] [rimmed]etc. My favorite is the 17 Jaelina which I might put up for sale soon.

I would love a rifle like this in .222 with an old fashioned long Unertl style scope with blocks mounted out on the barrel, and cheek piece a mirro image of this to suit a left hander. In the cadets I learnt to shoot with a 22rf Martini rifle - both lined Cadet as well as BSA target rifles.
