Browning Low Wall dimensions

I'm having a rolling block built up in .30-40, and I'd like to fit it with a tapered octagon barrel similar in shape to one I observed on a modern Browning Low Wall a few years back.

Does anyone here have one of those Brownings in .243? (Or was it a .260 I handled?)

I'd like to get the dimensions across the flats at both the muzzle and up near the receiver, just before where it starts to flair into the round shoulder ring. The diameter of the shoulder ring would be nice as well.

That Browning was (to my eyes) an extremely handsome gun, and I'd like to create a similar look on my RB.

Thanks.

My high wall 1885 ,45-70 goes from 13/16" to 1 1/8" round at the muzzle. But for looks it depends on what receiver size you have and barrel length....I forgot the fact that I had cut 6" off the barrel so the 13/16" is not quite right !!

Many thanks!, Low Wall. Up near the receiver, that's a bit fatter than I thought. The drawing I have made for my barrel has -- ha! -- 0.56 at the muzzle, but 0.80 at the end of the straight taper, so it sounds like I have it a bit skinny. The shoulder diameter for a rolling block is 1.125", and a sudden reduction of .31" in diameter is likely too much for decent asthetics.

Is that .89" near the receiver ring still on the straight taper, or on the flair?

My high wall is round ,1 1/8", for about 1 " ,the flare goes another 1/2", then the straight taper starts at 1".

Low Wall: many thanks again. The width across the flats just before the flare begins would be appreciated. That number will pretty much determine the degree of the taper.

mete: I recall the High Walls have a much beefier barrel, not so slender at the muzzle as the Low Walls, but my memory may be off. If your's is 1-1/8 at the receiver ring, I'll bet the Low Wall is as well; thanks.

Sounds like the contour on those Low Walls should work on my RB.

asdf..the Dia. of the barrel (round non-tapered) is 1.06" for a distance of .85"(from the receiver)....at that point the octagon starts and flares down to the the meas. of .892 @ approx 1.742" (.85" + .892") from the receiver ..from that point it looks like a straight taper to the muzzle...
I have photo's of the rifle (from the previous owner) and could e-mail them to you...PM your address to me if you like....I would post them but don't know how Roll Eyes....cheers mic

LW: I've done so and am grateful for your time. As I think about it further, I do recall that barrel struck me as having a greater angle of taper than most octagons, implying a wider section near the receiver. I'll re-work my drawings.
