I thought about a No. 1 in .22 LR for a long time. I'm having fun stocking the .222 No. 1 and have this wild hair...

I know that some conversions have been made. I'd buy a used gun or get one converted to .22 LR... whatever.

Thoughts... suggestions?

Thanks,

Dick Wright

firing pin must be made off center, don't remember how they accomplish it.

There is at least 3 or 4 different ways people have done it but I don't see many of them anymore. It's just money, right?

My only interest is a No. 1. I'd like to restock it like the .222 in my post "Project three...". I have pattern stocks that I made and that allow you to make most any kind of rifle; from a lightweight carrying gun to a full size varmint/target rifle.

Dick,
I have done several conversions of the Ruger Number1 to rimfire. I use the method of moving the firing pin within the block. This leaves the block in the same position as it was originally. I have found shortening the arm to move the entire block occasionally causes problems with internal timing. I usually install a liner in the barrel leaving the outside of the gun "original". A new barrel is of course another option. If you would like to talk, give me a call at Johnson's Sporting Goods in Adrian, MI 517-265-2545.

Steven,

I found your name whilst doing some research on this. Thanks for replying.

This is part thinking out loud. I need a No. 1 action for starters before I get real serious. It occured to me that I will have the .222 project done before long and I will have no gun to stock.

When I find an action I will drive down to see you. I looked it up yesterday... all I have to do is get on M-52 and head South.

Will your conversion work with a Kepplinger trigger?

My thought is a light sporter... a carrying rifle.

Would you PM me your email address?

Thanks again for the reply.

That seems reasonable... I really have to concentrate on getting the .222 project ready for rust blue and checkering before I get too involved in the .22 LR project.

I have a friend who is looking for a No. 1 action right now and will pass this along to him.
