Hi all,

There's not a lot of information out there on Butch's single shot. If you own one or have had a rifle built on one of his actions Id appreciate hearing your thoughts...and of course pictures are always welcome!

Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, Butch's SS is based on a Martini & Hagn action and then Butch does the rest. Nice rifles.

look on Butch's website. It is not on an M&H action. He bought it from the widow of the original designer. Oregon, IIRC.

Matabele - I have owned a Searcy stalking rifle for several years. I got one of the first ones he made, and mine is in 9.3x74R. If a prettier rifle has ever been made (IMHO), I have not seen it. It is superbly accurate - 5 shots into a ragged hole at 100 yards - and it took several animals in Zimbabwe last year. Since Butch made my rifle, he has made a couple of design improvements like a disc set striker and faster lock time. You could call Butch, and I am sure he would tell you all about the upgrades he made to the design. Anyway, here are a couple of photos - mine is the one in the middle. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me or send me a PM.

Butch makes nice stuff.

When they opened the Cabelas in Maine, they had a side lock double rifle there he built in 500 NE. It was a lot of money and I can't even remember how much, but it was amazing.

Much nicer than the Periguini Visini double rifles they had, and if I remember right it was quite a bit less money.

Subsailor: Congratulations on owning such a gorgeous rifle in such a classic caliber.

I looked at Butch's single shot rifles at the SCI show in Jan. I agree with Subsailor, if there is a better looking rifle, I've not seen it.

It points like well fitted shotgun. My Ruger #1's feel like a bat compared to Butch's single shot.

This week I found myself with the (un)enviable position of having a little extra cash that was literally burning a hole in my pocket. With DSC only a few weeks away, I knew I did not want to blow it all on lottery tickets sold by buxom booth babes (yep, I AM a sucker for those gals in bikinis with huge tracks of land), so I decided I would buy a new single shot in 7x57. I have always wanted one in this caliber. I looked around, and the Rugers are nice, but a bit heavy. The Dakotas are very nice, but for the money I could have a true custom rifle. So today, I ordered a new stalking rifle from Butch Searcy in 7x57. This will be the perfect compliment to my Searcy 9.3x74R stalking rifle shown in this thread. I promise to post photos of my new single shot as soon as I get it from Butch. Maybe it will get here this summer. Then again, knowing Butch, I may have it for hunting season in 2013. In any case, it will be magnificent.

Please post photos once you have the rifle in hand. It sounds like a masterpiece!

After 13 years my single shot 300 H&H is complete will try to post photos. The finished gun started in 2002 with a Hagan style action being used by a company in Ca building high in English guns John Rigby. The first gunsmith had it for two years and hadn't been able to work on it for health reasons so it was sent to the second one and he machined the a one off barrel with the front site base and quarter rib from the barrel blank it was also a octagon style. I had it chambered in 300 H&H with a chamber reamer from the US Army rifle team from the 60s and there it set for five years no more work being done. so I was forced to find another builder. I was Lucy enough to find Bruce Searcy who was now using the action on his own line of guns, he was very busy but still offered to finish the project for me. Bruce had to have surgery on his hip and was forced to turn the project to the last gunsmith on the long line of builders. The new builder was a ex-employee Glen Morovits who teaches at the Trinidad state gun smithing school he was able to finish the project for me and the workmanship is out standing and after thirteen year this project has been completed and It's just what I hoped it would be.

Friend of mine has a Searcy single shot in .375 H&H, some of you probably saw it at SCI a few years ago..Its an awesome rifle and shoots like a varmint rifle, as do most of Butches rifles..All my Searcy doubles shot exceptionally well.
