Interesting post. I just so happen to have a Browning 1885 in .223rem and a B78 in 22-250rem. Also had a M1885 in 7mm rem mag. Each have different extractors to match the cartridge rim. The way to experiment is to remove (very difficult to reassemble hammer springs later) the extractor and place it against the 30-30 rim. It should be able to push a rimmed case out. The radius on the extractor may not be correct against the diameter of the 30-30 rim. The Browning extractor is a good design. It solves the problem Winchester had with the original 1885 model.
