When I'm shooting my bolt actions, 10-22, Ruger #1 they have a LOP of about 13.5". My Encores however came with 14.5" LOP.

I was told by a fiend it was due to grip angle. I don't buy that because with some thumbhole stocks I have they are 13.5" and fit perfect.

After looking at the Encore system I'm of the opinion that because of where the scope is mounted. If you went with a 13.5" LOP then most scope turrents would be where the front ring needs to go for the proper eye relief.

I could be off base so would like to hear from you guys. On your non Encore rifles what's your LOP. Then what is it on the Encore/Contender you have?

Lenght of pull is measured from curve of trigger to curve of butt plate or center of recoil pad ,to measure your proper L.O.P. bend your arm to 90deg measure from inside arm at elbow to end of first index finger, for winter subtract 1/2" for coat, that will be a compatable L.O.P. for your guns, to short of pull, Danger! ever see a guy with circular scar around eye ?

I appreciate the info on how to measure for proper LOP. And that is what I've done for my other rifles.

It's just when I've gotten after market stocks for my Encore, Boyd's thumbhole, VVC stock, and even factory stocks they are all 14.5"-14.75" LOP. For me this is too long 5'8".

On my Kevlar stocks I specified 13.5" exactly like on my Rem 700, and Hall benchrest rifle. I had to move the scopes forward some. But now my Encores are much more comfortable.

The only problem so far is a Burris Black Diamond I have on one of my barrels. The ocular is too long so have to adjust accordingly. No scars above my eyes yet. Only one that came close was a 470 Nitro. But even then I'm right handed and when the rifle recoiled it tapped my left eyebrow. No blood but it hurt for a while.

How did it tap your left eyebrow ? have you ever done a master eye test ? hold both hands out in front of your eyes and make a small hole by cupping hands look at something across the room threw hole close right eye , Do you still se the image ? if yes you have a left master eye . I have know lots of people that are left handed with right master eyes ,and vise versa ! My son is one of them left hand right eyed ! had to teach him to shoot right handed , for older fellas ! learn to close the left eye to shoot right handed .let me know ?

The 470 Nitro is a rifle barrel for the Encore. It was the first shot with the barrel. Needless to say I wasn't holding on tight enough. And the scope had only 3" of eye relief. For a true big bore the more eye relief the better.

The rifle torqued and that is when I got wacked.

outlawsix: Standard Encore buttstocks are too long for me also. I ordered a Bantom buttstock for my Encore 22-250 with a 6.5-20x44 Zeiss and it works perfectly. The LOP on it is 13.75".
