In case this is not old news on here, Ruger is making a limited run of Ruger No.1S EDIT: It is the 1A NOT 1S(Light Sporter) rifles in .303 British. They can be ordered in Canada and Australia. I don't know who the distributors in South Africa or other Commonwealth countrys are. You will have to pay a deposit and order now for a possible delivery before Christmas. These will not be added to the regular No.1 line up. Imagine the .303 stoked to max in the strong Ruger No.1 action with woodleigh 215 projectiles. Happy days.

Great for you 303 fans. Ask them to make a small run of 1B's for us Yanks in 30-40 Krag and we all have a good Christmas. Rich

You might have something there. The Krag rim is only 0.005 larger than the .303 Rim. A .30 cal Ruger No.1 barrel blank and your not far off what you suggest. Write to Ruger.

I'd go for the .303 Brit...would also get one in the .30-40 if avilable, but would MUCH prefer the No.1-S .30-40 to the No.1-B. Thanks for the head's up. Will get my .303 order in tomorrow. My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

Well, I put my order in with Lipsey's yesterday. They tell me it still isn't for sure they are going to make them...depends on how many orders they get. While I was at it, I put in an order for two Ruger No 1-S,es in .30-40 Krag. If enough others would do the same, I believe they will ask Ruger to make those. After all, Ruger has already made #3s in the chambering...not much engineering left to do in order to make No. 1s. In addition to those, the ones I would really like to see would be No 1-S rifles in either .33 Winchester or .35 Winchester. My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

I suspect they ARE going to be made, that's why I phoned in an order immediately. Was just repeating what the guy at Lipsey's (the one who handles "our" account) said. As he doesn't act as their purchasing contractor with Ruger, he may just not be fully up to date one what is going on other than with his own sales "accounts". Just thought it was an interesting comment coming from them.... I would still urge those in NA to also order .30-40 Krags, even though there is no sign of them being in the pipe-line. If the .303s sell well, and there are a bunch of inquiries about the .30-40, it would be a natural follow-up...the concept being one of creating a classic "stalking" series.... Here is the annoncement from NIOA in Oz. I'm afraid I am not familiar with Lipseys, but Im learning 'Ruger has confirmed that Canadian distributor Prophet River Arms has ordered an exclusive run of No.1A's (Light Sporter) in 303 British. They have not been made yet, in fact they haven't even got onto the production schedule yet, but we are able to add to this order. We have a window of 1 month. So the answer is YES, we will be ordering a number of Ruger No.1A's in 303 British (Ruger Model # 11348). (This is the Light Sporter) What specs? Ruger cannot tell us the specs as they haven't scheduled the production yet, but it will almost certainly be SAAMI spec for legal liability reasons. My guess is a groove diameter of .311 with 1:10 twist. (Just my guess remember!)' This is just for your info. Good luck with the 30-40 Krag. Wouldn't it be good if they did do a limited edition run like Remington do with their classics. One can dream .300H&H Flanged, 6.5x68 Rimmed.......

Well, thanks for posting the additional info. Now I will keep my eye more closely on what is actually going to be produced. If it is a 1-A, I will cancel my order with Lipsey's. In your original post it was listed as a 1-S, which is a whole different kettle of fish to me. The 1-A has a 22" barrel. The 1-S, depending on chambering, has a 24" or 26" barrel. Nothing wrong with a 22" barrel for field velocity, hunting, etc., I suppose. I just don't don't like the looks of them. Definitely not in the old Farquharson "stalking rifle" tradition...at least not the ones I've owned, the shortest of which wore 24" barrels. If it's not a 1-S they're gonna produce, guess I'll have to build my own 25" barreled one with about a #1-1/2 contour, sights, barrel band swivel, etc. Even with a 25" barrel it will still be marginally shorter than a bolt gun with a 22" barrel, so will still be plenty handy to carry afield. Anyway, thanks again. My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

I really should proof read my own post. Thank you for picking that up. My mistake and I apologise if I have caused you any inconvenience. I have edited the post. The 1A is considerably shorter and butt heavy. Your plans sound ideal. Cheers, John

C-4... No problem. We deal with them (Lipsey's) pretty consistently anyway. They'll still probably be happy to see us when we order something(s) else. I might even just accept the .303 anyhow and then sell it, depending on how popular they are at the time. I'm glad to see your "butt-heavy" comment, for sure. I've always felt exactly the same way about them, but most of the folks at this site seem to really like the little 22" stubbies, so I am usually fairly careful not to criticize them in any way. I don't come here to offend folks.
