Old topic, I know, but here is a picure of a gun I recently bought with this set-up. It is not as high as I thought it might be, so with low rings it should equal, or maybe be even be lower than, the standard set-up with low Ruger rings.
I made this mount from a generation I Tapco AR15 riser. It has 6 holes through it. I had some 8-36 screws, and I shortened them. The radius in the rear is constant, but in the front the only way to match the taper is to glass the mount to the barrel.
The trick for me to hanging on to Weaver mounts was modifying some V-blocks. Here they are in a different application, but think upside down with an AR getting a new radius milled on the bottom.
