Has anyone got a Hicks Accurizer on their Ruger No. 1? Just wondering if these contraptions work. Also, what's the best aftermarket trigger option? Thanks!

Good Hunting,

I think thr Kepplinger set trigger is the best after mkt trigger option. I really like it. I looked at the accurrizer, but glass bedded instead. You probably get the same effect with a rubber washer. There has been a lot of discussion about it.

I know nothing of the part you speak of specifically. But I have had work done on my rifle from the person who made the accurizer for the #1s. He is a top notch guy and everything he does is golden. The work I had done is nothing short of perfect. And everyone else that has dealt with him has had the same if not better results from all of his products/work/gunsmithing!

I highly reccomend anything from this guy.

Jeff Hicks AKA Celt. He is the guy behind the "Hicks" Accurizer

Great guy to deal with. I reccomend him wholeheartedly! With the work he has done for me and others, I am extremely happy with it as is everyone else that has had work done by him. Go on the Snipers Hide website. He has done alot of work and custom rifles there for alot of the members. His work is of the highest quality and he will make sure you are more then satisfied. He is a perfectionist. Let me put it this way, he would not send a part back to me that he had caoted all blacck for me becuase it was not "Perfect" even though her said it was something no one would notice but him. He asked if he could wait one more day before sending it so he could redo the work on it to make it perfect. Even when to anyone else it would look perfect. He was not satisfied with the work, so he wanted to redo it to make it right.

The first thing to do on a #1 is to free float it. Just whittle a plastic faucet washer to fit between the hangar and forend. The screw goes thru the washer of course.

If the rifle does not shoot reasonable groups then you can go the next step with the Hicks Accurizer which works the same as drilling and tapping a hole in the hangar and having a screw press up on the underside of the barrel. I would just drill and tap it.

Here is an accurizing article at www.members.tripod.com/Rbertalotto/ruger/ruger.html

Here is a trigger article at www.realguns.com/archives/063.htm
Glass bedding is a last resort as the washer and "accurizer" are so much easier.

From what I understand of the #1's trigger it's very difficult to install an aftermarket trigger and there may be a link involved that's not supplied. This is one job that I would send to an experianced smith.

The Moyers trigger is inexpensive and fairly easy to install if you are handy with tools.
To get the pull weight where I wanted it I had to remove the trigger return spring. Now it's just right.

I put a Hick's on my No. 1 in 280 Rem. Groups shrunk to about half of what they were. I really didn't need it my groups went from about 1 1/2" before to 3/4" after. It did make a postive difference. I'm glad I did it. If it is reasonalbe and it will reduce groups up to half it is always a consideration in my books.
