Since my post below, I was offered a Rolling Block action. I have pictures of it and it looks pretty good. There are some details that I want to ask about. There is no barrel, sights, front or rear stock included so there is no use asking about that. The person believes it is a Swedish BP rolling block action. There are two details that are unusual for it. One is the hammer. There appears to be a safety of some kind inletted into the metal hammer that apparently moves when you pull back the hammer (it sort of looks like an upside down Glock trigger). The second thing is that there is no pin locking devices on either side. There is no button, button screw, or hole for a button screw. Also, there are no "half-moon" screws nor holes for them. The notch in the action for the extractor looks like it is made for a sliding extractor (which is not included). How hard will it be to find that part? What is it?

Harry, If the RB is indeed a swede no matter the year it will make a pretty good low pressure action. Don't know about safety, but have had 4 swede RBs in the past, depending on date of manufacture they can be wrought iron or steel. The extactor is easy to get Gun Parts have blanks available. Sounds like one of the New York guard/militia actions. The hammer drop to half cock is the telling thing. I can't think of any other RB's that were done that way. The sliding extractor is the less desire-able one. The rotating ones are the best. Frankly, rolling blocks are a neat old action that is inferior in every measurable way. Step up at least to a Sharps or a Winchester if you want to build a nice rifle. In my opinion they are a waste of a good barrel and the work of a gunsmith. And yes, I have had one built. Sold it for a loss but was glad to see it go. Josh

I say Rollers are very cool, if somewhat different. They can make a very nice custom for a reasonable buck. Where can you find a Sharps or Winny action for the same kind of $? You can't. I'm building an inline .50cal muzzleloader on one right now. I converted it to a side-lever and that really helps the lines of the rifle. To each their own, but I find Rollers pretty cool. I just acquired a rolling block very similar to yours. Mine was made in Sweden for the Danish Military. It has been re-barrelled to the 8mmx58R cartridge by the Danes. Bore is very good so I want to shoot it. Found some new cases, boxer primed and have modified some Ideal tong tool parts for loading it. Should be great fun for only a $400.outlay. I have one of these in 45-70 and find it a great shooter with black powder and cast bullets. The sliding extractor is a PITA. I have made them from scratch but much prefer the ring type. Hope you get it together and have a lot of fun with it jclayton
