This is my first post so here it goes...I was wondering if anyone has had problems with Nef guns breaking open during the shot?? I just got my son a new NEF 243. I was sighting it in when the case hit me in the middle of forehead during the shot. It hit me hard enough that it left a mark. What has been your experience with NEF??? I also have had the the spent cases not exject when you want them to.I am going to send it back but it has really made me a little "gun shy". Thanks for any information. Turk1

Clean it good, pay particular attention to the frame under the chamber, the latch shelf and the latch itself and the area of the frame and under side of the barrel. If there is any dirt of crud build up in any of these locations, the barrel won't lock up tight. I just scrub all those places with a tooth brush and gun scrubber, be careful with cleaners though, some will harm the stock finish. Also make sure there is no oil on the latch and latch shelf, they should be dry.

For the stuck case problem, the chamber needs to be polished, I use a bore mop with a patch wrapped around it and a piece of cleaning rod attached to the mop, chuck the rod/mop combo in a drill and polish with JB non-embedding bore compound, flitz or any fine metal polish. Just a minute or so total is all it takes and move the mop in and out of the chamber slightly so you're not working just one spot too much. I have of bunch of Handis and Ultras, do this to all of em, never have a stcuk case unless I forget to wipe the chamber out after cleaning, it is imperative that the chamber be clean, dry and oil free when shooting.

Had the same problem with a new H&R Utra in 30-06. Cute little half moon scabs on my forhead from brass comming back. I sent it to NEF and they had it back in a few weeks. Can't remember if they reimbursed me for shipping. No problem since. Still a pain in the butt. If I was to do it again I would take it back to dealer and let him deal with it.

Had the same problem with my .223 barrel bull and 06 barrel. What I have found is that the NEF is sensitive to closing pressure. If I gently close it, it may open, if I shut it with some pressure, (not slam it) never have the issue...may be just my gun. Sticky cases...like wrongtarget said, polish and clean.

Mine in .223 does it from time to time. I always carry a can of Gun Scrubber and carefully spray some into the breech area as well as into the hammer assembly. Doesn't happen that often, but it certainly is annoying, isn't it?
