| Hi I live in a shotgun only county, and have used 20, 16, and 12 Ga. for deer. In my opinion, the only actual difference is which you shoot better. The bottom line is that any of them will kill a deer RIGHT NOW if you do your part. I don't recall ever having a hit deer travel more than 100 yards with any of the shotguns used. Find the most accurate slug load in whatever guage you pick, and go get a deer. |

| When I lived in the Socialist Republic of Maryland for a few years I hunted with my Encore with a 20 Ga. Slug barrel and I never had a deer go over 25 yds after being hit. They were all in the heart lung area. recoil was very manageable with all 20 Ga loads, you could tell the 3 inchers were a little stouter. I also shot one of the 12 Ga Slug barrels and it was quite a bit of difference. I can stand recoil very well but it wasn't worth it to go with the 12 Ga barrel to me. From what I have read I think most 20 Ga. Sabot Slugs shoot flatter than most 12 Ga. rounds. If you go with a rifled Slug barrel make sure you use Sabot Slugs as the rifling generally won't shoot Foster type slugs as accurate. In all other uses for a shotgun I use my 870 12 Ga. If I have to go back there(Lord I hope not)I will use the 20 Ga. Slug barrel again. Hope this helps.

| I like the 20 ga with the Winchester Supreme sabots. You will not be disapointed!! These are not your fathers "punkin' balls". Good luck..... |
