Story time and a request for information. I grew up in New England on a dairy farm. First time shooting was 10 years old. I had bugged my grandfather enough he said fine. Took me for a short hike into the woods beyond one of the fields.

Handed me a single shot 12ga. No safety, old school break action and bead on the end of the barrel. Handed me a bird shot shell and told me to shot that tree stump over there. I did.

WOW I can remember the pain and shock to this day. I had not tucked the butt. My grandfather asked me how many more shots I wanted to take. NONE! He went on to explain he was sorry I had to feel that but I would never not hold a shotgun or rifle without tucking the butt again. That was how his father taught him.

Later in life I found out that the single shot 12ga was his fathers old gun (no serial #) that he had used to get the family food back in the 30's in rural Georgia.

I always thought I would never see that again. My grandfather passed at 96 and I had no hope of receiving the 12GA. Last week I received a call from my aunt who told me a family member has it and knew my grandfather would want me to have it. I should be able to get it within a few months. No idea of the condition but that's ok.

I've always wanted a really nice single shot 12 or 20, actually would prefer a 20. Satin bluing, sleek, clean lines, break action, no safety, simple gold bead like a 1911 front site. ANd of course, some really nice black walnut or Turkish walnut, satin finish.

I asked Luxus if they would make a shotgun off their single shot and the answer was a soft blow off. If anyone will know where I should look it's you guys. Please, if you know of a smith I should speak to, let me know.

You can find some really nice English shotguns out there that are single shots. One of the trap guns may fit the bill. They are priced pretty reasonably as there is not much demand for them.

Browning used to catalog a nice single shot. Henry (the lever gun company) makes an okay single shot shot gun.

The old Winchester Model 37 is at almost every gun show around here. The 12s are less than a 1k here.

My Dad had a Cherokee 12 bore with 32 inch barrel chokes right as s rifle. You talking about reaching out fur ducks and squirrels.

It burned to a crisp when my childhood home was shot into and burned down.

Stevens had a vintage single shot, and now offers a single shot sold by Savage.

My first gun was a HR 410. I killed groundhogs and squirrels with. It too was destroyed in that fire.

My first two firearms were single shots also. First was an Ithaca lever action single shot 22, and my second was also a single shot HR410 (just like yours LHyem500). Bought the 22 when I was about 12 yrs. old, and the 410 was a Christmas present in high school. I’m 70, and still own both firearms. Too precious in memories to sell.

As others mentioned look for some of the used imports that you may like or an american one and have it restocked and refinished to your liking.
When I was in business I had a client who had a savage 219 in 22 hornet. I fit a 20 gauge barrel to it. I then restocked it for him with 2 separate forends. He had someone else finish the metal work. It actually turned out to be a real nice set. He said it was how he started out with guns and hunting as a kid.

Those Berettas are nice looking. Academy carries the Hatfield ($129.00)which is similar but is not in the same class as to workmanship. The Hatfield would make a good knock about gun for behind the seat of a pickup or farm equipment. I looked at one many months ago, it had Walnut furniture and overall it wasn't bad but it is definitely no Beretta.
I am on a single shot quest myself for a repro 45 Colt Low Wall because I probably can't afford a Browning..
