Do any of you guys have experience with these singles? The action looks small and like a TC contender. I am just curious. You never see articals or adds for them. I would like to get my mitts on a single shot in .243 eventually and I am wondering if this would make a nice antelope gun. Jay

They are a real bargain for the price. I have 3 of them, 2 bt new, one used, one yet unshot in 6ppc, the others in .357 Mag (the standard pistol cartridge) and .30-40 Krag. Both of the shot ones have proved to be very accurate, when you find a load they like. I was initially disappointed in the .357, it doesn't like 148 gr Wcs or any other of the factory lead bullets I tried, although I haven't really tweaked a load with them in it. but it shoots 125 gr JHPs I loaded (using a no longer manufactured Winchester powder) into a 3 shot CTC 1/2 inch or less at 50 yards. .30-40 is sub MOA as well. Only real drawback to them is the extraction system is fairly weak, and the chambers are tight, which helps with the accuracy but I've had several .357s fail to chamber, I suppose because the bullets were slightly oversized and stretched the brass. Triggers are great. I found a couple of things in my dealings with them: One, while it is cheap, I don't think the charge for the "better" wood is worth it, it ain't much better and I had them put the handrubbed (I think, I've slept since then, but, at any rate, an upgrade finish) on the stock and while it is OK, both of these options are not really worth it in my opinion, particularly when you consider that, according to Mr. Brown, these are the reasons that my delivery went from a predicted 4 to 6 months to about 9. However, I'll say again, these are about the most gun you can get for the money, and are very LIGHT and handy (something to consider if you want a hard hitter, meaning more recoil, but they don't chamber really hard recoiling cartridges).

I have a 97 D in 6ppc. I'll try to give as objective an evaluation as I can. 1) nicely accurate. .5" groups (five) are the norm on a quiet day. Even with me shooting, and a schnabel forend. 2) wonderful trigger, but a bit light for hunting. 3) light and handy. 4) nice/pretty. Con: 1) won't handle any modern standard boltface cartridge. The frame stretches enough to make things sticky, even on my PPC. Think of it as a "weak contenter". Great for 30/30, Krag type cartridges, but NOT a 308, Swift. 2) It's a single shot. It needs that rim. Don't try to fight it. 3) It's a single shot; brass doesn't last as long because you have to size it a bit more than usual. 4) It's pretty. Now my wife says its hers..... LOL!
