Ruger #1 are/will be available in some pretty sweet african "cape"able (sorry couldn't resist)

Would it be feasable to create a double rifle using two single shot actions? what would you do with the side by side triggers?

the same thing you would do with the two levers for the action. How do you figure on regulating both barrels? Just save yourself the embarrassment of appearing stupid and go buy a real double rifle.

I have seen a SXS double rifle with a falling-block action. Of course, there was just one big block, and one operating lever, tandem triggers. But the thing was ponderous, even when compared with a large caliber break-action type of double. Just no grace or artistry at all. Basically impractical.

Seems like in the good old days when Brittainia ruled the waves and the sun never set on the British Empire, those who could afford them brought double rifles for dangerous game. Those who could not afford them bought the less expensive single shot rifles like those based on the Farquharsen and Martini actions. They did right well with them. No less an African hunter than John Taylor wrote in his book "African Rifles and Cartridges" that whenever he was hunt lions exclusively, he was armed with a single loader. IIRC, it was a rifle based on the Martini action. He relates one incident where he engaged three lions at relatively close range, first shooting the male, reloading quickly shooting the first lioness. Another quick reload as lioness number two charges. He drops to one knee and shoots when the cat is only a few feet away.
With a little practice, one can reload a single shot and fire an AIMED shot almost as fast as an average shooter with a bolt action. The enphasis is on the word "aimed." One who seriously practices just might be able to stay up with the average bolt action shooter.
If I ever get lucky enough tow win a few bucks from the lottery, you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be headed off to Africa. I'll be taking two rifles, a Ruger #1 in .300 Win. mag. for plains game and a Ruger #1 in .416 Rigby for the big and nasty. Personal goal is a cape Buffalo with the .416. I've been hunting with #1s since I bought my first one in 1975. Shoot straight and they're no handicap.

it would work, if you remember to use the right set of sights for each one.

weird, though, even for here.
