I have been a big 375 winchester fan.I really like big bore 94 winchesters in 375 win.I found a Ruger #3 in 375 win for $400 in very good shape. It would be fun to play with but I really dont need it.I have only seen a few in this caliber how many where made?Is it easy to find scope mounts. It is the same action as Ruger #1 with a different lever to open it with right.I bet its fun to shoot.I just cant figure out what it would be good for.Its in awesome shape and the price is right.I bet I never see another one if this one gets gone.
It sounds like you really want to buy this one. If I were you I would jump on it because you can always get your money back. It's a great action and very strong much the same as the #1. Rings etc. shouldn't be a problem to find either. Do you really need a USE for it? Just give it a home and it will find a spot to fill.

I have several Number 3's, in 223, 44 mag, 375 win and 45-70, I love them all, you can easily find weaver bases, you might even be able to get the old Ruger factory bases that allow you to use ruger rings on these fine rifles. I'd buy it, you can always sell it for more than you paid.

The .375 Win. is essentially a modernized .38/55, a round which had a great rep. as both a 200-yard target and hunting load in the BP days. It will definitely do anything a .35 Rem. cvan do, and in a No. 3, a lot more than in the old M94 Win. Plus, you can use pointed bullets! I'd bet it would do great with a premium-grade 225 spitzer of some sort loaded up to +- 2400 FPS! Probably be a great short-range elk and moose load! Besides being a gret platform for launching big cast bullets like the Lyman .375449GC!
Ask that question on the Ruger-1 group at yahoo.com and see what kind of responses you get. I suspect it will be "buy it". $499 is a great price, if it is in really good shape you can easily get your money back. Be sure to ask about box, papers, shipper, ect. Pass the serial # to The Ruger group. Some body over there is collecting them . Sounds like it would make a good hog gun. I mst have 6 or 8 "hog guns" or "truck guns". Wonder if I'll ever figure out I can shoot only one.

I have a friend that has one. It's a great cast bulet shooter. For scope mounts, you get the same blocks as fit the Ruger #1V. Then you use standard Ruger rings. That's how my #3 in 45-70 is set up. At $400, that's a good buy. They're running in the $500 range for any #3 here un Tucson. I had to give $450 for my near mint #3 in 45-70. I saw on 304- Krag and a .22 Hornet st the same gun show and the Krag was going for $600 and the Hornet for $550, with both prices being firm. Ruger doens't make #3's any more and they can only go up in value. Paul B.

I will probally get it but might just use it as a shooting play toy.I have a big bore 94 winchester 375 win.I love it but hate the side scope mount.I tried reciever site I couldnt hit as good as open sites.Where would you get the old Ruger bases to use Ruger rings?I had a very good load as first shot in my big bore 94.It was 235 gr speer bullet with 38 grs of aa1680.It shot one whole group at 50 yards and 3/4" at 100 yards.I also looked at using 300 gr round nose in 375 win .I loaded dummy 300 gr FMJ just for fun.Is it possible to shoot those out of this Ruger #3.Its in good shape no box or papers of course. If I carried my 454 with it I would try caribou first then moose maybe.I usually carry my 416 rem mag as my brush gun. What about the stocks can you use #1 fiberglass stocks on this gun or is the lever too different.I know if I dont get it I wont see another one.I just passed on a heavy barrel octagon model 94 in 25-35 for $250,I had just bought Model 24 Winchester double barrel 20 ga.I know one thing people are empting ou their closets of collector guns ans dumping them.I regret selling my browning model 78 45-70 NIB but I got $950 for it .I have about quit collecting guns ,either they are a working hunting gun or I dont buy them.If I can double my money quick I will buy them. The #3 is as strong as the #1?
